Which part of the working class has Labour drifted away from?

the Party had drifted away from the working classes by leaning too far to the right, when Thatcher was asked what he greatest achievement was, she said "new Labour"....thats all you need to know, that sums it up perfectly.

Corbyn is taking the party back to its socialist roots where it belongs, but its a long hard battle and there is plenty to do, the party has been taken over by the right and they are not going to give up easily, the party say they are a broad church, but they are only a broad church when the right are in control, and they would rather see the Tories back in power than a socialist labour government..

lets not forget that since Corbyn came to power the party has over doubled its membership, and Corbyn is trying to give the power back to its members where it was before, until they had it taken away from them by the right.

So you agree the Tories are the party of the privileged.

That is a matter of fact, not of opinion.

The Conservative party came out of the aristocracy and large land owners and with the decline of the aristocracy came to represent business owners.

The Labour Party came out of the trades union movement to represent the working people, the unemployed and women.

Both parties were formed when the law and parliament acted almost exclusively in the interest of the privileged in society.

Regardless of the argument about whether or not the working class ultimately benefits from a modern capitalist economy, the basic position of those two parties remains unchanged.

As Flanker says, to get elected. What people don't realise is they give with one hand and take it back with the other.

Should we be so grateful for the 'National living wage' (which is still often not enough for many to live on, and still require benefit top ups) when those at the top are on 6 and 7 figure salaries, plus perks, pushing up the cost of living?

As for taking people out of income tax, there are still the myriad hidden taxes which have to be paid, and the fact that we no longer have the services that support the less well off, so have to be paid for out of pocket.

17% of working people say they do not have enough money to pay for food, bills and essentials, and are having to borrow to keep their heads above water. This figure is growing. Food banks, credit unions and homelessness are all on the increase.

I thought newspapers were evil and biased, singing the government’s agenda -particularly the Telegraph. How come they’re posting something negative to the government?

Do you know how disposable income has changed?

The 'mainly white male' Sun and DM reading working class who were concerned about immigration and voted for UKIP and Brexit, the working class who are no longer represented by a party supported by left leaning middle class socialists who actually look down on them …. the Thornberry, The Abbott, The Corbyn types don't appeal to them, they despise them ;)

Indeed. Except the working class have had to fight tooth and nail for everything, including the Trades Unions. They have been given nothing. They have been blocked at every turn by the rich and powerful, and it still goes on today.

Maggie Thatcher did her best to scupper the Unions and to a large extent succeeded. Subsequent Tory governments have done everything they can to take away ordinary people's rights to demand change and protest, often in the name of anti-terrorism.

Up against the might of the all powerful establishment, the working man's only strength is in standing together. Something the Establishment are keen to undermine at every opportunity.

Beware. Do not be conned by the very people who would do you down.

But the current aspirations of this group are largely unachievable in a modern multicultural, multiracial globalised post industrial society, so there is a limit to what the Labour Party can do to appeal to these people without actually lying to them.

Tony Blair tried doing that and in thirteen years managed to increase the gap between rich and poor.

It is not the immigrants that Daily Mail and the Sun and UKIP blame for their situation, but the millionaire owners of those newspapers and parties who have a vested interest in diverting attention from the real issues. Slag Corbyn off all you like but do you really think that the interests of the working class, white, brown, black, blue or green lie with millionaire businessmen like Nigel Farage, Paul Dacre, Rupert Murdoch and Aaron Banks?

Really?

ah the idiots that should be fighting a class war and NOT a race war blaming immigrants for their problems which the ruling elite and mentioned media have facilitated?

We should be fighting those at the rulers table, NOT fighting each other for the crumbs that fall off said table.
