Abolishing tuition fees is a terrible idea. It is as unfair a thing as could possibly be imagined. It's shameful that Labour are dressing this bad idea up as socialism.

Well found.

Jolly good. That sounds like a promise to me.

Let's see if he keeps it. Personally, I think he will.

Do you agree with him?

I do not agree with him no.

Abolishing tuition fees would be very regressive. It would cost billions, but have no benefit to the poor whatsoever. It would however amount to a 'tax cut' (or increase in take home wage) for higher earners, paid for from the wages of everyone - including low earners. That doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

I suggest continuing the tuition fee discussion in the tuition fee thread to avoid cross conversation. I'll post my comment there.

I left the Labour Party because of Jeremy Corbyn's stance on Brexit. Though I like and admire him, I do not feel he represents me - or for that matter the young in this country and I hope the young people starting to rise up and stake their claim to their future fully within Europe will be heard.

Corbyn played this card in order to capitalise on Theresa May’s decision to call a ‘snap election’, it got the young off their backsides, but it’s likely to require the promise of golden elephants to get the working classes to follow suit. However the mid term announcement by May to take a similar course of action is a complete waste of time, has she possibly re-employed the advisors who came up with the ‘snap election’ idea?

Just like Nick Clegg and the Lib Dems did in 2010.

That turned out well.

Thankyou to the Labour party for considering abolishing student tuition fees.

Easy to promise the world when you're not in power. But I'll just remind you of this U turn:

Labour retracts tuition fees pledge as Angela Rayner says there are 'no plans' to write-off student debt

Reading Corbyn’s comments he said nothing about eradicating existing debt. And in terms of pledges.....nothing

The Telegraph story only has mileage if you put a specific twist and spin on the comments. The article actually insults the intelligence of the reader.

I’m not backpeddling.

You’re just ignoring details about how the BAME section.

Check the sign up process. If You’re white you’re not excluded. Therefore white members of the BAME section could have benefitted from reduced tickets as well. That’s not racism.

You're making yourself look a bit silly with this.

He didn't say he was going to eradicate existing debt no. He said he would 'deal with' the debts, and was 'looking at' ways to reduce, ameliorate, or lengthen the period of time that “those that currently have a massive debt” have to pay it off.

I find it a little concerning that he thinks lengthening the time that people have to pay them off would be a good thing for the students..

Read the article and the words they have attributed to Corbyn. Then come back.

Thank you. So not one word about eradicating debt.

The article was (only just) one step above fake news.
