Errrr he's saying the party will split and Corbyn will have fewer MPs because the majority will form another party.

Not strange at all if you apply a bit of thought to the post...

I believe the party name 'New Labour' is available.

For reasons unknown McDonnell and Watson are saying they expect the Tories to call an early general election. What planet are they on?

Just politics. They know May wont do it.

But then by next election time she would have implemented hard Brexit (which is probably only approved of by quite a small minority of the electorate) without going back to the country.

Labour will be able to say that they were up for an election but May bottled out, and refused to give the country any say over how Brexit would be implemented.

They are playing a long game.

No General Election is due (on current legislation) until 2020.

The PM cannot unilaterally decide that there shall be one earlier, unless the House of Commons carries appropriate votes under the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act (or the Act is repealed).

Quite so.

The Conservatives do not want to call an election opportunistically and cynically right now when Labour are at their weakest as it would be rather obvious and they would expect the public to punish them for it.

If the opposition really want an election, they can arrange a vote on the matter in parliament. I dare say the government would support it (as it's not their initiative, the punishment would not apply) as they could expect to dramatically increase their majority. It would then get the 2/3 majority required.

But they (Labour) don't really want an election. They're bluffing. If May were to call their bluff, they'd cry foul. They're playing silly games.

McDonnell dropped the bombshell on BBC News this morning - heavy borrowing again for their zany schemes.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Mr McDonnell said the UK would borrow in the short term for long-term investment and the "prosperity of the future".

Mr McDonnell said this would trigger investment from the private sector and, ultimately, higher tax returns.

Yeah, right. Because the schools BSF and other PFIs worked so well didn't they?

Plus, why call one now when you can sit back and watch the Labour car crash a little more and watch Corbyn run the party into the ground, and possibly force a split. :)

It would be nice to have a national mandate for what Brexit is . . . . . when we know what it will be?

What we have now is a mandate for a blank piece of paper.

Brexit is Brexit. Doh

It will be what we manage to negotiate and I'm sure they will tell us its best thing since sliced bread.

Exclusive: Labour on course for worst defeat since 1935

Labour could win fewer than 200 seats at the next elections for the first time since the 1930s, exclusive Survation/LabourList polling indicates.

Labour have launched a scheme to train more future female leaders in memory of Jo Cox; its a shame that males are barred from this, I can think of someone that really needs a few tips ;)

Doesn't it strike you as odd that Labour go in for heavy positive discrimination regarding gender, but have had no female leaders and always seem to operate on a heavily male dominated inner core?

Perhaps positive discrimination is not the solution to the under-representation of women in politics.

Labour to announce it will ban fracking if it wins election

http://news.sky.com/story/labour-to-announce-it-will-ban-fracking-if-it-wins-election-10593932

Ouch. GMB union with 631,000 members (with some in the fracking business) supports fracking.

Funny how the GMB supported Smith.....

The GMB backed Owen Smith for leader... Now they may have to pay the price.

Then we get onto the vast number of elderly and low income people who will continue to struggle to heat their homes using gas imported at great cost.
