Ha ha, somebody just got fisked.

Rule 1 of Sheffield Forum:  Be careful with those throwaway lines at the end of a post.  Otherwise the thread will get diverted/deflected into a discussion of them, and away from the more substantive points you were making.

I’m happy to argue the more substantive points too, which is why in my response I said I disagreed with the general premise as well.

That depends on who you are!

One of the biggest changes from those times is a job and a pension for life. Now most jobs are on renewable contracts and a large number of new jobs are zero hours contracts with very little security. Also we had much more society in the 70s. Community cohesion was far stronger then. Demographic changes now spread people out all over the place where they feel isolated and unsupported.

In the '70s you could get into a good school and get a good education and go on and do what you wanted even if you were poor. Now in many areas you have to pay a premium for your house or the rent you pay to get your child into a decent school.

In the '70s if you were bright enough, you could get into college or university and your local authority would pay your fees and in many cases pay you a maintenance grant.

In the '70s we could all turn on our televisions and watch football, cricket, boxing, Formula One. Now if you want to watch any of those things you have to pay Rupert Murdoch for the privelige. And even if you pay for your football or boxing, if there is a top match or fight on, you have to pay even more.

We are being mugged off all over the place.

These are mainly economic advantages. If you were black, Asian, Jewish, LBGTQ, disabled or a woman maybe things were not so great but most people were better off.

Rubbish. Average living standards are far better today. You also missed out endless strikes and 3 day weeks. Rampant inflation. Higher  unemployment. Oh, and being the "basket case" economy of Europe. Luckily the Tories came in to clean up the mess (just like in 2010).

I kind of like Galloway too. He does at least have a sense of theatre, and even if he talks nonsense, at least he does it  with some style. Together with P.G. Wodehouse, and never having been a particular fan of TS Eliot,  all things considered, George Galloway is my favourite antisemite.

I'm not  surprised if they're letting him back in together with Derek Hatton as it just confirms what everybody has now known for years - that left wing racist Jew haters like those two are warmly welcomed, in today's Jeremy Corbyn Labour party.

Galloway and Corbin are two peas in a pod , both terrorist sympathisers .

So the Tories are going to make us the "basket case" economy of Europe again then?

Derek Hatton has been suspended from Labour. Keep up.

What has George Galloway said that makes him a 'Jew hater'? Or is this another unsubstantiated smear.

Dont know Galloways view on Jews, but i can have a good guess seeing he is a supporter of the Palestine terrorists Hamas.

No, they saved us in 1979 and 2010.

"The 1976 IMF Crisis was a financial crisis in the United Kingdom in 1976 which forced James Callaghan's Labour Party government to borrow $3.9 billion ($17.2 billion in2018) from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the largest loan ever to have been requested from the IMF."

What did they save us from in 2010?

What has George Galloway said that makes him a 'Jew hater'? Or is this another unsubstantiated smear.

1. The IHRA definition document includes as an example of anti-Semitism the making of demonizing allegations concerning the myth of a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institution.

Galloway, Amman 2009 “There is a conspiracy in this region all right – but it’s an American-Israeli conspiracy".    on chemical weapons used against Syrian civilians Galloway said in 2013, without bothering to provide any evidence, of course : “If there has been use of chemical weapons, it was Al Qaeda who used the chemical weapons. Who gave Al Qaeda the chemical weapons? Here’s my theory: Israel gave them the chemical weapons.

“the Zionists sent gunmen to the Maidan in Kiev to help a revolution…being done by outright Nazi anti-Semites…if these Nazis come to power in Kiev and they hate Jews so much, the remaining Ukrainian Jews will feel that they have to go and settle in Palestine.”

2. IHRA definition also says that “anti-Semitic discrimination is the denial to Jews of opportunities or services available to others.”

while he was MP there Galloway proclaimed that no Israelis should be allowed in Bradford saying, "We have declared Bradford an Israel-free zone.  We don't want any Israeli goods, we don't want any Israeli services, we don't want any Israeli academics coming to the university or the college, we don't even want any Israeli tourists to come to Bradford, even if any of them had thought of doing so. We reject this illegal, barbarous, savage state that calls itself Israel.

Galloway has in the past shared platforms with Arabs who are Israeli citizens. Galloway has no problem with those kind of Israelis. What Galloway has a problem with, is not Israelis as a whole at all - it's Jews.

George Galloway shared a platform with a very prominent Jewish man, known to many as the Children's Laureate, Michael Rosen and they had an interesting debate about anti Semitism in the Labour Party.

Although the discussion is 6 months old it's uncanny how Rosen and Galloway predicted the breakaway of people like Chukka Umunna into a separate party. There are a couple of predictions made in the discussion that have since come true:
