It's not the number of 'anti-Labour' newspapers that's important, but the size of their circulation. I would hazard a guess that the 'reporting' and opinions of the Daily Mail reaches far more people than the Guardian.

Nor does a retraction or apology, squirreled away at the bottom of an inside page, equal the half page innacurate Headline emblazened on the front page of the Daily Mail, readable from the far side of the garage forecourt.

When it comes to the media, it is not an even playing field.

All newspapers put their retractions in the smallest place possible, it's not like the Daily Mail is the exception.

Feel free to peruse all the corrections and retractions the Guardian publishes: https://www.theguardian.com/theguardian/series/correctionsandclarifications

I never said it was unusual, just that it in no way equalizes the damage done by the lies perpetrated in the initial front page headline, which in most people's perceptions remains unchallenged.

Talking about the press posting damaging lies;

https://labour.org.uk/press/an-apology-from-the-labour-party-to-kat-buckingham-michael-creighton-samuel-matthews-dan-hogan-louise-withers-green-benjamin-westerman-and-martha-robinson/

9. These defamatory statements were foreseeably republished and were intended by the Labour Party to be republished, very widely in the media and social media.  Among the news outlets that re-published these false allegations were the BBC, Sky News, The Times, The Daily Mirror, The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Independent and The Guardian, as well as many Jeremy Corbyn-supporting blogs and websites including The Canary, Skwawkbox and Novara Media, and many individuals on social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter.

10. All these allegations as described in paragraph 8 are false and the Labour Party unreservedly withdraws those allegations and is profoundly sorry for the distress caused by their publication and republication.

11. The Labour Party accepts those allegations made on behalf of the Labour Party are untrue and defamatory.

12.  The Labour Party is here today to set the record straight and to apologise unreservedly to the Claimants for the distress and embarrassment that the publication of the false allegations have caused them and for the continuing damage that has been caused to their reputations. The Labour Party also has agreed to pay substantial damages to the Whistleblowers.

It's a good job the Labour party has so many members, damages look like being in excess of £500,000

And sorry doesn't make up for all the hate these people received.  Samuel Matthews considered suicide at one point.

It's delightful.

Where are all the deluded corbynites and momentum morons now. All those who screamed everyone was against him.....  It was all lies..... They were all making it up......  It was all a conspiracy by the right wing press .... it was all fake news......   they just wanted to undermine him......

Well there we go.  As I always said, he was a leader of a toxic party who himself was short-tempered, bitter and stubborn.  He didn't take criticism and was as nasty and devious in his retaliation as any others.

Kinder gentler politics my backside.

Oh, I can well imagine the excuses of a couple of users on here already.  Brace yourself.

Starmer could easily get that back by doing what Boris does, just have a few games of tennis with a Russian minister's wife.

Just give planning permission to a pornographer turned property developer.

That always works.
