I kind of like Galloway too. He does at least have a sense of theatre, and even if he talks nonsense, at least he does it  with some style. Together with P.G. Wodehouse, and never having been a particular fan of TS Eliot,  all things considered, George Galloway is my favourite antisemite.

I'm not  surprised if they're letting him back in together with Derek Hatton as it just confirms what everybody has now known for years - that left wing racist Jew haters like those two are warmly welcomed, in today's Jeremy Corbyn Labour party.

Can you direct me to one link where Galloway shows any hatred to the Jewish people? or Hatton for that matter..

Of course you will find them stating their outrage on Israel breaking international law, but that is not the same is it?

Its pretty much like me stating i hate the fact that American governments try to crush smaller nations that are of the socialist persuasion, but i dont hold any hatred of the American people

That depends on who you are!

One of the biggest changes from those times is a job and a pension for life. Now most jobs are on renewable contracts and a large number of new jobs are zero hours contracts with very little security. Also we had much more society in the 70s. Community cohesion was far stronger then. Demographic changes now spread people out all over the place where they feel isolated and unsupported.

In the '70s you could get into a good school and get a good education and go on and do what you wanted even if you were poor. Now in many areas you have to pay a premium for your house or the rent you pay to get your child into a decent school.

In the '70s if you were bright enough, you could get into college or university and your local authority would pay your fees and in many cases pay you a maintenance grant.

In the '70s we could all turn on our televisions and watch football, cricket, boxing, Formula One. Now if you want to watch any of those things you have to pay Rupert Murdoch for the privelige. And even if you pay for your football or boxing, if there is a top match or fight on, you have to pay even more.

We are being mugged off all over the place.

These are mainly economic advantages. If you were black, Asian, Jewish, LBGTQ, disabled or a woman maybe things were not so great but most people were better off.

I'd like to see your working on that one. So most people were better off in the 70s, unless you were a woman, or black, or Asian, or Jewish, or LGTBQ, or disabled?

But strangely if you were to be asked to provide evidence that either of the two were antisemitic you would struggle to do that.

Derek Hatton has been suspended from Labour. Keep up.

What has George Galloway said that makes him a 'Jew hater'? Or is this another unsubstantiated smear.

I do wonder if Hatton's suspension has something to do with the negative reaction in Liverpool to his re-admittance. Letting him back in will lose significant support in the city.

Some interesting comments on latest Labour leaver Ian Austen from one of the pundits on Politics Live this morning.

Apparently he's not 'whiter than white' in the old anti racism  stakes himself, having called on the Labour government to apologise to the people of Britain for 'letting all the foreigners in' during the Blair years and bizzarely heckling left wing Jewish author Michael Rosen at a holocaust memorial event!

Not sure of the veracity of these claims but even if they are true I doubt much will be made of them as it goes against the narrative of 'Labour being an antisemitic party'. As I have said a number of times before, one day there will be a reckoning of those Zionists and right-wing Labour MPs who have used the suffering of the Jewish people for their own political aims.

These people are a disgrace.

I’m not sure how these 11 MPs are going to further their careers once they’ve left the main parties. They’ll be gone into obscurity after the next election.

Most people were better of as a whole with a lot less personal debt however if you were a member of many of the above groups you would be hit by the triple whammy of being less likely to be employed in the first place, paid less if you were employed and subject to discrimination and abuse in everyday life.

Another problem we didn't have in the '70s was 'things'. We seem to have imported/been sold this idea from the US that if you don't have 'things' you aren't a success. This has also added to the amount of personal debt people have particularly where it comes to kids who want what all the other kids have.

My issue is with the maths.

If you take women, black people, asian people, LGBTQ people, and disabled people you get to over 50% of the population. Even if it was true that everyone other than those people are better off now than in the 1970s (which I think is actually demonstrably untrue) then you are still left with a minority of people, not most.

Ha ha, somebody just got fisked.

Rule 1 of Sheffield Forum:  Be careful with those throwaway lines at the end of a post.  Otherwise the thread will get diverted/deflected into a discussion of them, and away from the more substantive points you were making.

I’m happy to argue the more substantive points too, which is why in my response I said I disagreed with the general premise as well.

Rubbish. Average living standards are far better today. You also missed out endless strikes and 3 day weeks. Rampant inflation. Higher  unemployment. Oh, and being the "basket case" economy of Europe. Luckily the Tories came in to clean up the mess (just like in 2010).
