Dreb48 Â Â 35 #2 Posted May 9, 2014 Hi maggie. I can tell you for sure it was a Co-op in the early 50s and I imagine some time before that. In those days it had 3 separate shops. Grocers, Butchers and Greengrocers all in the one building. Sawdust on the floor, loose biscuits in tins, butter in a slab, bacon slicer. Yes all the stuff that Co-ops were in those days. A different time completely. Â ---------- Post added 09-05-2014 at 10:05 ---------- Â Just been on Totley History Group site and there's a photo on there that's annotated with ' built in 1931'
 Share this content via...

jackanne   10 #7 Posted July 31, 2014 You can see by the design of the building that it was built as a co-op,one thing most of co-ops built in this period had was a door on the upper floor and a hoist to take in deliveries, this was still being used in mid 80s when i delivered there,it is on right hand side of building at rear. The parade of shops where post office is was originally built as a row of cottages to house foremen and there families during the construction of totley tunnel, which started in 1888.It was known as brickie row,
 Share this content via...
