I hate to be the one to contradict you mate but please find below the exert from GOV.UK web site  Midlands, Yorkshire, and the north-east and north-west of England  You can only use natural or artificial fly, minnow, worm, shrimp, prawn, sand eel or artificial lures during close season. alf1956   10 #24 Posted May 26, 2014 It pertains to game fishing which includes brown trout,rainbow trout as well as salmon so its quite legal to fish with worm on the river don.find below the paragraph from the GOV.UK site under "Freshwater rod fishing rules"  Midlands, Yorkshire, and the north-east and north-west of England  You can fish for salmon, trout and other game fish during the coarse fish close season. You have to use certain types of lures and baits in some areas however.  You can only use natural or artificial fly, minnow, worm, shrimp, prawn, sand eel or artificial lures during close season.
