tzijlstra   11 #110 Posted March 29, 2014 Not many 'facts' there, Tim, to support your position. Several claims and opinions but few facts.  It is a fact that the NHS employs more immigrants than any other organisation in the UK. simply because the NHS is the biggest organisation in the UK.  It is a fact that many organisations have spoken out against leaving the EU.  It is a fact that unemployment is low and yet there are still immigrants.  It is a fact that many UK farmers receive EU subsidies and are already struggling financially despite these.  It is a fact that UK Universities are large beneficiaries of Framework 7 and Horizon 2020 grants. It is also a fact that they work with many EU universities in a whole range of manners, a drive through Greece will show you our own University of Sheffield as well as several others have full-blown branches there.  Sorry cgksheff, but those are facts, the fact that they might appear untrue to cynics is not my problem. cgksheff   44 #113 Posted March 29, 2014 It is a fact that the NHS employs more immigrants than any other organisation in the UK. simply because the NHS is the biggest organisation in the UK. Doesn't really support any argument against leaving the EU   It is a fact that many organisations have spoken out against leaving the EU. is irrelevant in the scheme of things ... they are concerned with maximising their profits, not improving the lives of UK residents. (UK EDF customers subsidise French EDF customers)  It is a fact that unemployment is low and yet there are still immigrants. Irrelevant It is a fact that many UK farmers receive EU subsidies and are already struggling financially despite these. Claw back our contribution and use it internally instead of subsidising european "farmers" with one or two cows.  It is a fact that UK Universities are large beneficiaries of Framework 7 and Horizon 2020 grants. It is also a fact that they work with many EU universities in a whole range of manners, a drive through Greece will show you our own University of Sheffield as well as several others have full-blown branches there. Leaving the EU will have no effect on this at all. It may even increase our profitability in the education sphere.  Sorry cgksheff, but those are facts, the fact that they might appear untrue to cynics is not my problem. It is a fact that cheese smells, but so what?   Comments in red.   .
 Share this content via...
tzijlstra   11 #114 Posted March 29, 2014 Yes, that is excellent. I have said before, if you are on one side of the fence you will dismiss the other side off the cuff. Thanks for illustrating that so eloquently and in red as well!
 Share this content via...
ivanava   10 #115 Posted March 29, 2014 It is a fact that the NHS employs more immigrants than any other organisation in the UK. simply because the NHS is the biggest organisation in the UK. Yes they employ a lot of immigrants and they also treat a lot of immigrants, if they didn't have to treat immigrants they wouldn't have to employ immigrants. And leaving the EU wouldn't stop them employing Immigrants, but would leave them with fewer to treat.    It is a fact that many organisations have spoken out against leaving the EU.  It is a fact that many organisations have also spoken out against EU policies that adversely affect them. Three in four British bosses want in-out vote on Europe: Support grows for quitting as companies become more Eurosceptic It also reveals that British business is becoming more Eurosceptic with growing support for quitting the EU altogether or withdrawing and securing new trade agreements.    It is a fact that unemployment is low and yet there are still immigrants. Its also a fact that it could be lower if fewer people were allowed to just turn up here and work or claim benefits.  It is a fact that many UK farmers receive EU subsidies and are already struggling financially despite these.  It is a fact that the UK can't produce all the food it needs so British farmers will always be needed, and if they need government subsidies to help them produce our food it is in our best interest to give it to them.   It is a fact that UK Universities are large beneficiaries of Framework 7 and Horizon 2020 grants. It is also a fact that they work with many EU universities in a whole range of manners, a drive through Greece will show you our own University of Sheffield as well as several others have full-blown branches there.  If UK Universities need grants to survive then the money we pay to the EU will be available to give them grants, they will also be able to attract more students from around the world if we don't have the free movement of people that we have whilst in the EU. Happ Hazzard   10 #117 Posted March 29, 2014 Keep limited immigration but immigrants should not become citizens of the UK, they should get no vote and no access to benefits.
 Share this content via...
