Tram Rail replacement works in Hillsborough 28/29th March to begin

Recommended Posts

the bus doesnt go up west street.

For some reason they are only running blue route trams past castle square. So you need to get a blue route from castle square through to shalesmoor. Then the replacement bus is going beyond that.

be prepared for chaos.

To clarify for those asking, the service during phase 1 of the works (29th March to late April) will be:

BLUE ROUTE:

Tram Halfway to Shalesmoor

Bus Castle Square & Shalesmoor to Malin Bridge

YELLOW ROUTE:

Tram Meadowhall to Cathedral

Bus Castle Square & Shalesmoor to Middlewood

PURPLE ROUTE and SUPERTRAMLINK BUS SL1/SL2/SL3

as normal

The replacement buses will run non-stop between Castle Square and Shalesmoor, with blue route trams providing a connection at both locations for Cathedral, City Hall, West Street and University.

Between Shalesmoor and Hillsborough buses will observe all bus stops. From Hillsborough to Middlewood/Malin Bridge buses will stop at the nearest bus stop to each tram stop and these will have a Supertram rail replacement project sign on.

So - if you are travelling from the Hillsborough area on replacement buses, for the city Centre:

Castle Square area - stay on bus direct to City Centre

West Street area - change at Shalesmoor onto the tram

Leaflets are available on tram with a guide to what service will operate for each phase of this years rail replacement project works. It is also available to download here: http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/tramrail/

Finally, this years special offer - 13 week Tram Megarider will be reduced massively in price from £131 to £95 (that's just £7.31 per week!), buy online at http://www.supertram.com

Just an update for anyone who's interested

The rail works are not being done on middlewood road, it is only going to affect malin bridge / holme lane tram tracks.

This will obviously mean traffic will be diverted to use the leppings lane entrance onto middlewood road so expect some delays.

Not according to stagecoach-

which says there will be replacement buses on middlewood road between castle sq and middlewood.

Yes the tram will be affected because of work being done on the junction at bradfield road/holme lane - but this should only last for about two weeks.

I was saying that there are to be no works being done on middlewood road itself and any businesses that are worrying about how it will affect there deliveries and collection will be able to direct transport via leppings lane entrance.

everyone knows that they are going to be doing tram replacement for the next few years so instead of complaining why not just look on the supertram website for dates and areas

So just wondering, will the replacement buses stop at the tram stops where possible or somewhere else?

So I have to: Bus > Bus > Tram to get to work and home...ridiculous. The replacement for the yellow tram should run the tram route from town to Middlewood. I am not going to get to work on time.
