What do you think of Handsworth?

We are planning to buy a house in Handsworth but i am wondering if it is a good area to live in or not? we are new to sheffield so i don't know the areas here. thanks for the help

People are either going to tell you it's a complete toilet or it's the best place on earth.

So go down, walk around the place and make your mind up.

I've lived in Handsworth all my life. When it came to moving out of the parents and buying my own place both myself and my now husband decided we wanted to stay local. He wasn't originally from Handsworth.

 

It's like most places, has an eclectic mix of residents, the majority in my opinion are friendly law abiding people. It's one of those places where people still smile and say morning rather than just walking on by.

 

It's good location wise for shops and transport, the 52 runs through Handsworth to Hillsborough via the city centre and of course the parkway is close by for access to the city centre and the M1.

 

The pubs have gone down hill recently, not a patch on what they used to be. Sword Dancer is ok for food, it's nothing special but nice enough.

 

There is the odd group of youths that congregate but you get that everywhere and we've never had any bother.

 

All in all I like it but like someone has mentioned some people will slate it so it's best to have a look round yourself.

It all depends on the area, Handsworth is quite large.

Handsworth is a load of rubbish ./ Dont encourage any more to live here they will tell every one else . Keep away.

It's not the best and certainly not the worst. On a scale of one to ten I would give it a 7. I live at Woodhouse Mill which is nearby, a much better place lol...
