What was in the 'Mars Bar' at Hanrahans?

Recommended Posts

Anyone remember the Mars Bar in Hanrahans? So easy to drink!

What I'm trying to remember is what went into it? Malibu? What else?

Surely it would have been ".... the goodness of milk, sugar, glucose and thick, thick chocolate...."

Yes remember having the Mars Bar in Hanrahans then trying to recreate them at home. I think we used Malibu, Bacardi, ice cream, milk and banana all shoved in the blender then served it with a mini mars wedged in the top. Everybody liked our version but more than one and you wanted to puke.

Loved Hanrahans at that time. Thought it was a top place. Anyone remember their deep fried ice cream ?

I remember that too. Used to be packed for happy hour on a Friday evening in the mid-1980s. The Mars Bar cocktail had a fun-sized mars bar wedged on the glass as a "garnish!"

Loved that place and the manager, Bob Huntley.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten all about this. Wouldn't it have had something like Bailey's and maybe Tia Maria in it?

I worked there on the bar in the late '80's - it was Kahlua and coconut cream with ice & blended. The coconut cream was made my mixing tinned coconut milk and single cream.

Where was Hanrahan's ?

On Glossop Road opposite the Hallamshire Hospital.

We used to go from work for the happy hour (I think it lasted two hours) on Fridays in the mid '80's.

My favourite cocktail was the Zombie - the one with dark, amber and white rum.
