Trolls are ''psychopaths and sadists'' say researchers.

Recommended Posts

Certain posters seem to be transfixed on particular issues, rather than having a broader spectrum of topics. Take for example the thread that got removed tonight regarding mens magazines. Not only was it three years out of date, it was a subject that this particular poster seems to enjoy. You don't want to believe everything you read in these popular websites that are so popular, they are the first thing search engines bring up......oh, wait a minute, sorry, my google didn't bring up that particular magazine or anything remotely connected with it. That concludes that its been located under the search feature.

Have you tried searching for Ebay or the current state of affairs in Venezuela, rather than another self-indulgent view from Miss.N, who incidentally posted pictures of a victim, without the victims consent in her publication.

To me, that is trolling at its worst, without any thought towards people that have been affected by it.

I didn't have time to report it, before it was removed anyway. Top marks to the moderators for that.

Not a staggering discovery, but it underlines what many have long suspected. It was interesting to read about the "Dark Tetrad": narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy and a sadistic personality.

I'm sure many of us can claim to have seen such traits in many a troll on here.

Did several people just confess to having multiple accounts, clearly against the forum rules?

The whole thread is like the night of the living dead.

The banned becoming the unbanned. Multiple personalities abounding.

They aren't allowed here. Only trolls have them.

This is not the case, we do allow users to have a business account providing they contact the helpdesk before creating that account. We also have the facility for posting anonymously via the 'dear forum' account. To do that you must contact a moderator or admin who will discuss it with you in confidence.

Bickering removed. If you cannot behave like reasonable adults I will be happy to issue suspensions until such time as you can

100% Correct but how can the forum stop it? That's any forum / chat room.

Forget proxy for a mo. Think about this . black and white. One home family of 4 all join a forum. They connect to one router. Router allocates an IP for each family member. Each IP can be changed manually. So banning IP don't work. So forum goes for MAC add. The user then change the network card new mac add. ETC ETC. without going into detail any forum chat room will have a problem banning anyone that wants access to it. Multiple accounts or not.

The opening post looks like troll bait in itself.

Not really, it's just a quote from an article.

It's a reference to a piece of legitimate academic research - what is there about it which makes you think it's a trolling exercise?

I dunno, the op with the article seemed like he was trolling trolls, hehe :-)

That aside, the paper and the Canadians apparently don't know the difference between trolling, and bullying. Both completely different.

The fact that they don't even know that what they are researching IS bullying and not trolling, makes it lose all credibility.

Most of the time, the bullying that goes on, places such as facebook etc are people they know in real life, such as in school. It is quite worrying that bullying in schools is being looked over altogether.

To add: why don't they research bullies in general? are they sadists and psychos too? the people want to know!

MAC addresses are not visible across the internet so that's a non starter anyway.

As you say it's also not possible with IP as people can share IP addresses, and then there are dynamically allocated addresses for things like mobile dongles, phones, etc...
