Did anyone watch this? Well intentioned, but misses an open net.

 

 

 

I know it's a few years old but I've only just managed to see it fully. Meant to be a comedy. It isn't. However, it does allow Murray to work with David Johansen again. That's always going to be a treat. It features Jenny Lewis, one of America's most underrated singers in my opinion, and Miley Cyrus, who I can't deal with but has possibly the best legs in America.

Very entertaining story about an American ex-pat who runs a highly profitable marijuana empire in the UK who decides to sell off his business and retire, which sets off a series of events as various factions scheme to steal it from him. I watched The Gentlemen based on your recommendation, and I agree with your 8/10 rating.

 

I expected a typically bloody, gratuitously violent, 60s-era gangster flick with the inevitable cameo from Ray Winston, but I genuinely enjoyed this.

 

Good to see some amusing (instead of annoying) stereotypes of cockneys, the landed gentry, the gutter press and foreign gangsters for a change, and it was great to see the individual stories intertwine then gradually unravel as the film progressed.

 

I thought Hugh Grant playing a sleazy hack was a nice touch, given his problems with the newspapers 😁

 

I'm not the greatest fan of Colin Farrell (I last saw him in Miami Vice and Total Recall, and was underwhelmed by his performance in both) and as for Matthew McConaughey, he just  . . .  gives me the creeps in every role he plays, but both actors played their parts with the necessary gravitas and charisma.

 

Charlie Hunnam also impressed, carrying much of the movie on his own.  I've just checked Wikipedia, and it turns out I've not watched him in a movie since Pacific Rim back in 2013.

 

I'm looking forward to the TV series, and I hope a sequel is on the way.

The Closet 6.5/10

 

Korean movie fans should enjoy this, it stars the talented Ha Jung-Woo.

 

It's a horror/ supernatural movie so a little different from his usual type films.

 

Synopsis: Having lost his wife, a man moves to a big house in a new area, with his young daughter.

Troubled following his wife's death, and neglectful of his daughter- there are spirits who are more than happy to occupy the young girl.

Just finished this. It was ok, watchable enough I suppose.
Quite depressing that it’s about covid23, half the population are dead and the rest have been in lockdown for years, but hey ho 🙄
Not sure why they thought it was a good idea to release this now, or even make it at all, but it’s not the worst film I’ve ever seen...

Outside The Wire - 6.5/10

 

The latest scifi movie released by Netflix about a US military drone pilot who is sent into a warzone in Ukraine, the first warzone in which robot soldiers are being deployed by both sides. He's teamed up with Anthony Mackie to hunt down a local warlord who is trying to get control of old Russian nuclear missiles.

 

In many ways it's the standard Netflix scifi movie, decent enough but nothing particularly ambitious or flashy. However I gave it an extra 0.5 points for the philosophical issues raised about warfare where the human element is increasingly removed and AI makes the decisions.

The beloved & I have been waiting for this since we saw the ad at Cineworld a pandemic ago.

 

Loads of fun. Dan Stevens is no Rex Harrison, but it's more than worth a watch. Emilia Fox, Judi Dench and Julian Rhind-Tutt are top drawer in anything, and the Yank lass, Leslie Mann, glows as the vampy vivacious Elvira. 

Loses a few points for not being in black & white 😀.   8/10

Just watched this on Sky. I'm not sure I saw the point. I mean, it's pleasant enough. Passed an hour or so unobtrusively. Interesting soundtrack. I just didn't get it. A semi-formed film with no discernible pay-off. Might give it a few months and go back for a re-watch. See if it becomes clearer.

A 5 and no more.

The Dark and the Wicked   7/10

 

I enjoyed this. It doesn’t have much of a plot really but it’s quite creepy and actually made me jump a few times.

I loved the fact that it was filmed on Bryan Bertinos family farm too.

 

Im constantly disappointed by new horror so 7 is a decent score from me.

I watched this and thought it was guff. Ill give 2 points for the photogenic Eastern European power stations giving it a total 4/10.
