To be fair, i'd also class them as "snaps" rather than portraits. But each to their own. :)

I sincerely hope my post didn't cause any upset, it wasn't my intention.

Truth is sometimes you have to a be a little cruel to be kind, and i'd hope this spurs her on even more. Keep it up, it's a long learning curve, and all the best with it.

I haven't slagged her off, I never said the pictures were bad just more like snap shots , which several people agreed!!! So maybe rather than just naming me you should have taken the time to read the whole thread.

Your daughter is offering a 'photography service'. This implies that she is a professional photographer. She isn't.

Before she can start charging for her work, she should possibly think about at least taking a course in photography to learn how to use the settings on her camera, learn about composition, ISO, aperture, shutter speed etc.

Not everyone with a decent camera will be good enough to become a professional photographer. It's about much more than that. You have to have the creativity and the knowledge of how the camera works, know how to use lighting to your advantage etc.

On this link your daughter calls them snaps herself, that's what these pictures are, also if she's trying to use photography has her income it doesn't look very professional that mummy has to come and have a go at the slightest bit of criticism.

You should also be aware that pet photography is not big business. My ex boyfriend is a professional photographer with his own business. He specialises in music photography but also does weddings, landscape, portrait, studio and pet photography.

In the last 15 years, he's done many, many jobs. Not one single person booked him for pet photography though. The only pet pictures he took were of our own pets. And one family photo shoot he did in the studio included the family dog.

You will struggle to make a living from pet photography alone, no matter how good you are.

You need to have a thick skin when offering up images when selling a service, the point I'd make is it not very professional to solely use a forum like this to advertise any kind of services, it always pees me off whatever trade does it on here.

Also the inland revenue often are looking at sites for business users, so make sure you're registered with them.

PicsAndPaws - stick at it. Take the criticism on board and get out there and practice. In all honesty I'd be surprised (but very impressed) if you managed to turn pet photography into a full time career, but there is no reason you can't earn from it.

Just practice, practice, practice. Get yourself on the specialist photography forums and discuss photos, review other photos, work out what you like and don't like about other peoples photography. That will help you develop your own style.

If you want to take it seriously rather than just pocket money, you will need to invest in a marketing - for example a decent website rather than relying on Facebook (PM me if you want help on this).

Nothing wrong with trying to build momentum through forums, but build with other forms of advertising.

Have you added a link to the pet services thread ?

Good luck with it :)
