For years as a team we battled with pride But out in Australia we gave up and died, It was only last year, we were world number one Our Team was the pride of our proud nation, We left for down under with realistic dreams As only in the summer we had shattered that team, The writing on the wall in the very first test It was soon quite clear we were only second best, With the spinner announcing his final swan song, Old Captain Cook, left stranded his shipmates gone, Wickets tumbling with incredible ease, The end was near for this terminal disease. As we lost our pride and lost our will And we lost the Ashes by five test to nil, Yet hope was maybe that we could salvage some pride In the one day game we would field a different side. But alas those hopes were very quickly blown apart, This Aussie machine had way to much heart, On Sunday morning the fight came to an end, when it was reported the death of my friend.
