willman   10 #6 Posted January 17, 2014 Try buying from a dealer or having private plates on a car. Direct cars charge £300 to sit on your traded in car whilst DVLA process the documents. No more nipping off to the DVLA and waiting in a queue. Then you have to await the new documents to claim back the tax on your old car with its original number re assigned. All in all a loss of at least a months ta xrefund.
 Share this content via...

L00b   441 #8 Posted January 17, 2014 seen that from october this year you wont be able to sell your private car with any remaining tax on it .rip off or whatNot heard this, but not surprising if that is the case: I'd take it as a revenue-generating initiative, no different in principle (other than for the DVLA refund...which won't be for the entire period remaining, btw) from when Councils started to link parking tickets with car registrations (whereby you couldn't give your, or receive someone else's, earlier ticket with a bit of time remaining, you had to buy a new one = same parking spot making more money per period of time).
