If its going to be that hot there wont be any water to fill the cannons, They may have to resort to filling the cannons with coca cola owts better than drinking the stuff:D

Are you speaking metaphorically or do you have a "mole" in the Met Office?

The question is why does he think they will be needed?

Insurance? Better to have them and not need them than be caught flat footed like they were in 2011.

Most people have insurance against house fires but how often do houses catch fire?

When someone takes out insurance on their house they don't anticipate some ill-informed wally nudging and winking at them saying "expecting a fire soon? Eh? Eh?".

It's a bit like building up coal stocks before a miner's strike. It helps you stay in control.

Better than having to meet by candlelight as the Heath government did.

No, according to some on here it's better to be caught out by events then lambasted by a bunch of armchair experts and keyboard warriors about what you should have done.

Much better.

What a job that will be, I imagine they'll have a lot of coppers applying for that one.

As a growing number of the population of the country has no stake whatsoever, and cannot afford to feed their families (as is happening already), and the Tories have decided that massive cuts should all come from the welfare bill, perhaps it's to ensure the crowds don't decide to go en masse and help themselves from supermarkets.

Boris is a clever politician who acts the fool but is really switched on. He knows that very many Londoners are struggling financially, that forthcoming benefit cuts will provoke mass unrest and that the consequences are probably going to be more riots. The best tool to subdue riots and quell fires? A water cannon.

People questioning government policy should not be allowed to express themselves in public, as this would provide an opening for a wider audience, thus encouraging civil unrest. Demonstrations are not often seen on the news, as people do not need to know of such things. If students or others suffering from government decisions demonstrate peacefully, then such open expressions should be turned into terrorists, and dealt with with water cannon, and maybe live rounds too.

The state has the right to kill its citizens when deemed necessary for the common good, or imprison known troublemakers. Water cannons will help rid the streets of any protests, on any issue contradicting or questioning government policy.

We need scapegoats to frighten the population into agreeing to draconian legislation, and water cannons are a good start, on teaching people to trust the government, in all actions regarding demonstrations.
