longleyman   10 #27 Posted January 5, 2014 There are more than 250 parks, woodlands and gardens in the city,[3] and an estimated 2 million trees, giving Sheffield the highest ratio of trees to people of any city in Europe.--------Just a statement from Wikipedia. I've lived here for 78 years and I still think of it as Paradise.
 Share this content via...

Plain Talker   11 #30 Posted January 5, 2014 Wow such mixed responses lol! I appreciate all that feedback tho thank you, very valuable!! What makes it a **** hole?  It's not at all an A*hole, Mazy. You will notice that he's simply made a statement, without providing any evidence to substantiate what he has said.  Sheffield is a lovely city, with very friendly and helpful residents as others have pointed out (WITH justifications and substantiations to back up their points).  It's statistically a very safe city, (despite recent tragic incidents, it's still got an extremely low ratio of crime per inhabitant- and even the best areas in the country have pockets of anti social behaviour)  It's got lots of lovely parks and woodland, and wherever you are in Sheffield, it's within minutes of the most astounding and glorious scenery, in the peak district.  Educationally it's excellent, some of the best non-private schools in the country, as well as some outstanding private schools. We also have the prestigious Sheffield University and Sheffield Hallam Universities...  It has house prices that are very competitive.  I can say, hand on my heart, I would not want to live anywhere else. Tess   10 #32 Posted January 5, 2014 The city centre hasn't got the best shops, however it does have some lovely boutiques that you'll not find elsewhere. However, Meadowhall isn't far away and that has pretty much all the "Big" shops you'll need. Failing that, Manchester and Leeds aren't far away for the more upmarket shops such as Selfridges and Harvey Nics.  Nightlife is good, bars and clubs for all tastes and a couple of casinos for after hours drinking.  Lots of parks and outdoors things, and there's not many places like Sheffield, where you can be ten minutes from the city centre one direction, and ten minutes to the peak district in the other!  I adore living here and hope never to leave. I hope you can be as happy too!
 Share this content via...

Could be the best in Europe for a City. I think we have seven hills in Sheffield like Rome. I'd better stop before I get carried away. ccit   10 #34 Posted January 5, 2014 I'll rly mids ports x That, and your post #9 really says it all. It appears that there is the potential to be quite lonely and isolated for a while. The family of whom you speak - are they close family who are likely to be supportive? If not, unless you are a very strong, outgoing person who will make friends easily then you need to think very carefully about such a move. No amount of shops, entertainment venues etc etc will make up for that feeling of being alone, especially if you prefer to be in company. I've lived here for 78 years and I still think of it as Paradise.  Re the trees - I thought it was about 5million. But, yes, more trees per head of population than any other city so no heed to quibble, I guess. I've claimed the one at the entrance to Endcliffe Park as my own.
