Land Gifted to people of Sheffield

I am trying to find who gifted the land at stannington, for the Park, I think that it may have been one of the Dukes of Norfolk, or the Talbot family but I cant find anyone who knows !!! Help::confused:

What's wrong with the words gave and given? Sorry, but the use of the word 'gifted' is a pet hate of mine.

 

Land given to the people of Sheffield

HMM Just tried to put my pennyworth in and was advised that I was not logged in...which ..unless I am on Mars, I was!! Ah well..; Must admit that using 'gifted', puzzles me. Over here in Dah Nundah, the 11 year olds are using 'gotten', because most of the TV junk is Merkn..also the library is infested with Merkn fiction.

My English teacher, Miss Meehan, would have displayed a severe frown and asked "Why did you choose that adjective instead of the verb??"
