sparrowsdad   10 #1 Posted December 22, 2013 I'm thinking of trying camping/tenting in France/Spain next year, with my daughter possibly drive to Dover then down through France to Spain then camp somewhere near Barcelona. I know its a long drive so would stop off once maybe twice on the way down for a couple of nights. Could anyone recommend any campsites that are ok? Thank you
 Share this content via...

Thank you  I did that trip in the mid 70s twice once camping the second time with a caravan!.Going across France there are campsites everywhere just drive until your ready to stop you will find them no problem.Crossing the Spanish border the first site was in the Bay of Rosas, after a week there on to the Costa Brava the next one Camping Cala Gogo, another one Camping Colonge both good sites with swimming pools, resturants and bars, have a look on line I,m sure they are still on the go.They are not far from Barcelona, good luck!. Flanker7 Â Â 20 #4 Posted December 28, 2013 Wild camp at the ferry port or Cite d'Europe for an early start after a late ferry. Aires on the French motorways are good for 48 hours. We rarely go to campsites. Our record is 71 days wild - to Gibraltar and back.
 Share this content via...

H_Hounds   10 #6 Posted January 13, 2014 I can highly recommend camping de la foret near rouen for your first stop off. Lovely, site, lovely people and a pizza van parks in the car park on Monday nights, and a bakery van comes around every morning selling fresh croissants and pains au chocolat.  I reviewed it here on Google Places.  We also stayed here in Paris, near Disneyland. Flanker7   20 #7 Posted January 18, 2014 103 days without a problem France/Spain/Scotland - 2013 133 days without a problem France/Belgium/Germany/Czech/Scotland - 2012 2011 -Poland / Slovakia/Hungary/Croatia/Slovenia/Italy/Austria.  We've moved on 3 times because we didn't feel comfortable. We've never had a bad incident.  What's the big risk?  Below is the best wild camping site I've ever used. Look , use google translate, learn, and then stay at what you are comfortable with.  http://www.furgovw.org/mapa_furgoperfecto.php  Have a great time and don't believe all the rumpours. daveyt2 Â Â 10 #8 Posted January 20, 2014 Having looked into it a little further it appears the risk is less than I imagined, although there have been stories of campers being gassed and robbed while sleeping on Aires.
 Share this content via...
Flanker7 Â Â 20 #9 Posted January 20, 2014 That's what most of them are 'stories'. We arrive about 4-5pm and eat - all the while looking about and getting a feel for the place. If there is anyone living nearby I always ask if its okay. We've only been told 'No' once. The three times we moved on were because locals either use the place as a drinking/smoking/meeting place or they come and look at you and return with mates for more look's. Nothing wrong with that but we were cautious. Â When moving on you only have to go 20 mins to be completely off their radar and arriving late no one sees you before morning anyway. A 2 nights or more place has to be a top spot. And another camper nearby is always good. I've been on wild sites in the Algarve with 75 other campers, which is too much for us. Flanker7 Â Â 20 #10 Posted May 3, 2014 Just back from Portugal/Spain/France (42 days) In France we used Nursac and Marboue on the way down and back. Both are excellent municipal sites, very handy for the best route, free electricity at Nursac (4 points available). Very safe with other vans around use on the Algarve to Calais direct line.
