Virgin media price increase

Recommended Posts

I've tried but they won't let me, they keep saying my package is cheaper because it is a combination. But I've got no use for the TV or Phone parts. They keep telling me there is no Broadband only option because I am on cable.

You're being spun a yarn. Cancel the service and when you get the call to ask why, tell them you only want BB.

10% ? That's disgusting? Has the price of thin air gone up? Have they suddenly given all their staff a huge pay rise? Or do they see what the energy companies are going up by and think, 'Oh yes, I'll have a slice of that', out of sheer greed?

When was the last time they increased prices? I thought it wasn't that long ago.

They do have broadband only option= http://www.cable.co.uk/compare/virgin-media-broadband-no-line-rental/

It wouldn't be so bad if our virgin catch-up worked properly but it seems to be broke half the time. Also some the extra channels we get with our £4.50 per month increase only apply to those on the premium package.

Mind you Sky were rubbish when we had them a couple of years ago.

It just proves all the old economic and right wing theories wrong, price rises are not the result of increased wages, they are the result of a desire for increased profits.

It's not totally wrong, it's pay rises for their customers that cause increased prices, not for their staff. If businesses think people have more money to spend they think they can increase prices & get higher profits, particularly if they're something close to a monopoly. Other things can cause price rises too. It's only in a market with perfect competition that costs = price. Maybe Virgin think there's less competition so they can jack up prices, rather than people having more money to spend.

Its the inconsistency that bothers me. Some episodes of TV shows are missing, and the BBC iPlayer doesn't have any F1 coverage at all - yet I can get it on iPlayer on the Xbox.

I shall be making the call to see if I can reduce this package, our is just going up by £5.50 per month, and then they insult me by telling me all I am getting for this extra money.

I don't care a jot about the sports channel or speed it's fine as it is thanks another £66 per year is a joke. How much extra is everyone elses?

mine has gone up by £3.45 per month. it doesn't sound like a huge amount but it all adds up.

I may be wrong but you do need a landline, its the bundle that kills you.

you are wrong you defiantly don't need a landline, however I will say this it is often cheaper with a phone line than without it, so although you don't need it 9.9 times out of 10 its cheaper to keep it

What annoys me is I have this 'unlimited phone package' but they charge for anything other than 01 02 etc numbers, I use say no to 0870 but sometimes it's not an option so I end up paying for the damn calls on top of the package.

they being Virgin Media as if every other provider is any different?? you'll be hard pushed to find a provider thats different to this, its the same story with everyone else too, however if your on talk unlimited you also get 0870 numbers free and Virgin Mobiles free too.

they have nothing else to offer that's worth the money (IMV).

apart from the TV service of course, TiVo is by far the best, most advanced box on the UK market!!

Any other box record 3 channels while you watch a 4th?

Any other box allow you to use Netflix instead of buying on demand movies?

Any other box have its own built in modem with its own 10mb internet connection on catch up tv and on demand services are instant?

Any other box offer Multiroom Streaming?

Wishlists? Recommendations?

Apps like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, BBC Iplayer + loads more built in?

Hmmm nope, nope, nope, nope, nope and nope I think you'll find!!

Offers a huge selection of channels too and the on demand with TV Choice for the box sets, Virgin Movies for the latest fils same day as DVD, Netflix for cheaper movie options, free music on demand.

I think theres a pretty good offering there for the money compared to what you get on top of the offerings of other providers that the TiVo Box also matches.

I asked for a manager to call me and explain why two different people had told me different things. The manager called and agreed with the first person I had spoke to, the increase would still apply but as a gesture of goodwill he would apply a credit of £5.50 a month. It seems that no one knows what they are doing and contradict each other.

Contradict each other?? don't know if its me reading that wrong but its been the same story the whole way through? you will still have the increase but they will cover the increase with a discount so you don't pay it? what contracting there? the fact that the first person you spoke to said they're was nothing she/he could do? hardly condradicting you probably spoke to customer service the first time who are front facing with no offers and customer relations the second time who deal with existing customer accounts and would have had the tools to help you, the outcome still the same though, base rate still goes up, don't see how the 2 calls were different apart one agent could discount it the other couldn't but your base rate still rises? i'd say that everyone knows what they are doing probably alot more than most.

After having spent 80 minutes speaking to Virgin's three not-wise men and women I've decided to decamp to SKY who have an offer on their website today of 25% off their TV/Broadband packages for disgruntled Virgin Media customers

25% off the TV service is all fine and dandy but when your paying £11.50 for HD that Virgin gives you for free and £15 for BT Sports that Virgin gives you free and £11.25 for Multiroom when Virgin only charges £6.50 at most and in some cases free for that too, you need that 25% discount just to break even!!

Why not get broadband down a phone line? Talk Talk offer it for £2.50 a month and then there's £15.40 phone line rental. It's got to be cheaper than Virgin.

It can be fast too. At our holiday house we are within 100m of the BT exchange, so even though it's in a rural village the broadband speed is faster than what we get through fibre on Virgin in Sheffield. It's a steady 24MB/s whilst in Sheffield I'm lucky to get 20MB/s on a good day and it's very variable.

if your getting 24mbs in the holiday house of yours its certainly not ADSL coming from a phone line! this is due to the fact the possible fastest speed you can get via a ADSL connection is 16mbs so to get 24mbs it has to fibre!!

Wel VM gives me a very reliable 60 Gb/s and every year or so it gets doubled for free. Also there isn't a BT connection to my house I would have to pay a connection charge to have the wire strung back across.

A decade ago some linemen were replacing the lines in my street and they asked me if I needed a line as it wasn't connected. I said don't bother as I was happy with the cable service and as it was underground and completely out of sight it was far neater.

I may regret that someday if I want to go back to ADSL. But I prefer to have a house with no TV aerials or wires if possible.

I think you have defiantly jumped the gun, since BT, Talk Talk, Sky and all other major providers have all had or are also increasing there prices between Sept - Feb.

Your also losing out by going to freeview when virgin themselves offer a free view service but with no signal issues due to bad weather and also still gives you catch up TV & On Demand for free.

As for finding a new broadband provider, well you'll have to take a telephone line with any other UK provider which all of which are having an increase on line rental so you will pay the same if not more as VM's LR for this, and of course your broadband will be at least 6x slower than it was before due to it being an ADSL line that would be providing it compared the full fibre line VM use. Ooo and don't forget you don't even need a telephone line for Virgin Media's Broadband!

I'd suggest getting back on the phone to VM and cancelling your disconnection. Where else gives you the super fast broadband and instant TV that Virgin Media does? Answer? Nowhere.

Call 150 from your landline and then option 5 option 3 for Customer Relations they will help you cancel your disconnection.

Did you also see the part in your "changes" letter about your broadband speeds being increased again for free? Did you notice they give you BT Sport & ESPN in HD for FREE compared to the £15 of Sky TV? Did you notice they have integrated Netflix into TiVo boxes so you don't have to pay lots of money watching On Demand Movies (Which may I addd start instantly not 45 mins later once the Sky+ box has downloaded it), although the one demand feature is still there and has movies released on there same day as DVD release?

Did you notice the Free App's Smart Call and Virgin TV Anywhere that they have developed for you?

The FREE HD content?

Time for a phone call I think now my friend.....

You work for Virgin presumably? It'd be polite to say so.

Did you think about checking for yourself?

They offer a cable BB only option, full price is £25/month for 30Mb.

apart from the TV service of course

The content of the service isn't any better than anyone else, and certainly isn't worth the cost of subscription (IMV).

TiVo is by far the best, most advanced box on the UK market!!

Any other box record 3 channels while you watch a 4th?

My media configured under TV PC can do 6 (2*Cable, 2*Satellite,2*Terrestrial), though what's the point when there isn't that much to record.

Out of interest, now many times have you watched one channel while recording 3 others? Never I'll wager!

Any other box allow you to use Netflix instead of buying on demand movies?

Any other box have its own built in modem with its own 10mb internet connection on catch up tv and on demand services are instant?

Any other box offer Multiroom Streaming?

Hmmm nope, nope, nope, nope, nope and nope I think you'll find!!

Hmmm yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes I think you'll find!!

However, my comment was in relation to the content, the tech to watch it on is secondary and irrelevant. You can do better in that regard without an expensive monthly subscription for the privilege.

I think theres a pretty good offering there for the money compared to what you get on top of the offerings of other providers that the TiVo Box also matches.

I don't think any of the pay TV offerings are worth the money, so it's not a case of Virgin V's anyone else, they're all poor value for money (IMV).

The TiVo box is irrelevant.

Most normal internet users won't even notice or need the extra internet speed. There's only so much you can do with an even faster internet connection. So for the most it's pretty pointless.
