I always thought it was a shame the brilliant GT News at Gleadless Townend closed and after a spell as a convenience store has now eventually become a bookies. Don't think another one was needed.

Matt my wife worked in one of the slot arcades in town, and she told me some people just sat there, feeding money in all day. She said one woman went through a hell of a lot of money one day in the machines, when she ran out she just nipped out to the bank for more now that is a problem.

 

Who says it is a problem? You don't know her fianancial status. Maybe she had £100k of savings and didn't like sitting alone in her house all day. People spend 50k on a car, and sell it 3 years later for 20k, 'losing' 30k, do they have a problem? No they choose the car, they knew the depreciation and enjoyed the car.

 

I could go to watch SWFC. £24 ticket, £5 to park, £7 at pub, £5 at half time. Best part of £40 for 2/3 hrs entertainent. I could go to the bookies/casino, eat, drink, play 10p touchbet roulette for 3 hrs and possibly leave with more than i went with. That certainly doesnt happen at Hillsborough.

you know what they should do,

Is put all the betting shops in 1 place next to each other,

That way the punters get to see best prices and the betting shops have to

fight each other to get custom

that way everyone would know where they are

 

That would be the case in Darnall, four different bookies within 100 yards of each other.

Our local bookies has moved into a double size premises. Reminds me of that TV advert with the Grandad who likes the GG's and has blown the inheritance. Another bubble waiting to burst.

My ex's Mum worked in one too, she said they would play all day, go next door to cash converters and pawn anything they had to keep playing, and when they didn't win, ask for the machine to be reserved until the next day and come back with just a small amount (probably a loan or sold some household goods overnight) and hope for the best. One woman pawned 2 grands worth of gold jewellery to carry on playing, and only managed to get £200 back out of the machine.
