Why are there never any bins in train stations

I have noticed there is never any bins in train stations, and isnt it annoying.

 

You buy a sandwich and can of pop waiting for the train to arrive, then it is late, so you are sat there enjoying your sandwich and a can of pop.

 

You finish your sandwich and can of pop ... and .... guess what ..... no bins around.... you end up taking your rubbish with you on the train.

 

I am not sure if it is policy for train stations not to put bins out, but it is annoying ..... why no bins ?????

 

Does this annoy anyone else or is it just me.

It's their fight against terrorism.

I believe this act goes all the way back to the height of IRA activities in the UK. Bins were a favourite place to deposit IEDs, and I believe stations were targetted at the time. Stations were forced to act, therefore bins were removed.

Train stations are high risk terrorist locations, bins are perfect places to hide bombs.

 

The ones with clear plastic bags are even more vulnerable IMO because a bomb would cause much more damage if it didn't have a big metal bin case to contend with.

 

Yeah, but that's the reason.

I am sure if they wanted to blow up a train station they would find other locations, like the toilets, or other hiding places, like in a suitcase.

But there are bins on many, if not most, of the smaller stations, presumably because they aren't perceived to be at risk of terrorist attack.

 

"Bomb scare at Hathersage station" may not have quite the same impact as at St Pancras!

I think a bomb enclosed in a metal can will create more injuries because the metal can will disintegrate into thousands of pieces of shrapnel..

most stations do have bins now although it has to be a clear plastic bag so staff can visually inspect it for suspect items.
