Unfortunately, his chances in politics were pretty much destroyed by an unfair voting system and media assassination, in part by the state funded propaganda machine the BBC
 Share this content via...

Hollande has thrown the gauntlet down to British voters in the referendum. Ultimatums should really be a tactic of genuine last resort. A dismissive 'take it or leave it' might bring a weak, frightened and subordinate partner into line but the UK doesn't fall into that category. Ultimatums against the strong lead to a 'go fornicate with yourself then' response and a break-up or the person making the ultimatum backtracking and taking up a weakened negotiating position. Here we are at the start of the UK trying to renegotiate terms with the EU ahead of an in/out referendum and we are already getting ultimatums? Hollande was skilfully provoked by Farage into a tantrum and delivering an ultimatum that only helps the 'out' cause. No doubt Merkel has had word and we can expect Hollande to 'clarify' his statement/position shortly! What a pipsqueak!
 Share this content via...

Farage wants out,Hollande says that leaving is a logical thing to do if UK voters don't like the way that the EU is going.......I can't see what the argument is between them when they are very nearly on the same hymn sheet. Yes,'take it or leave it'... that is what an ultimatum is. Even Cameron has said he will leave it if he can't renegotiate terms. It was a stupid thing to say and he was baited into it by Farage... done like a kipper by a Ukipper!!
 Share this content via...

No,an ultimatum is 'do this or else'..............Hollande has not said anything of the sort.Cameron doesn't have the final say,so he can't leave,it's a public vote.......unless Cameron is going to ignore a yes to continue in vote. It's not a stupid thing to say,any renegotiation of the UK terms will have to meet with the approval of other members of the EU,all of them will have their say on it............this was Hollande having his,so Cameron clearly knows what his position is when it comes to renegotiations. retep 68 #296 Posted October 8, 2015 Slovakia seems to be threatening to leave as well, "Slovakia Prime Minister Robert Fico for one has had enough. He is tired of the rancour and indecision emanating from Brussels on the migrant invasion. Fico has warned that his country will head for the exit door and no longer impose the “stupid and dangerous idea ” of a united EU if no single, common policy can be formulated to deal with the greatest mass movement of people across Europe since the end of the Second World War." Zamo 10 #299 Posted October 8, 2015 No,an ultimatum is 'do this or else' Both definitions fit the definition of 'ultimatum'.
 Share this content via...
chalga 10 #300 Posted October 8, 2015 Both definitions fit the definition of 'ultimatum'. But Hollande is talking about a referendum.A referendum is not an ultimatum,it's a choice,in this case it will be whether to stay or go,Hollande is simply pointing this out by emphasising to UK voters what they are voting yes or no to,more EU or no EU.
