surfinjim 10 #1 Posted October 28, 2013 New laptop required for my soon to be 12 year old. Would mainly use it for watching You Tube/minecraft and hopefully his homework topics. Basically I don't have a clue and some pointers would be appreciated. Maximum budget £300, and bigger screen the better. Any useful advice much appreciated, PS Google Chromebook any good??? alchresearch 214 #2 Posted October 28, 2013 Have a look here and see if anything takes your fancy: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/ When I buy laptops for work I normally go for Samsung because they often have a special offer and throw in a 3 or 5 year warranty for free. Azrael316 10 #3 Posted October 28, 2013 Well, as Samsung has been recommended, this will do the jobs you mentioned with ease. It also has an HDMI port, so you can connect it to a TV with a simple HDMI cable. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/laptops-netbooks/laptops/laptops/samsung-series-3-np300-e5e-15-6-laptop-21495054-pdt.html
 Share this content via...
swarfendor437 14 #4 Posted October 28, 2013 I would go with alchresearch's advice: http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/search?p=Q&lbc=laptopsdirect&uid=91770372&ts=custom&w=Notebook%20%a3300&af=pbgbp:04&isort=score&method=or&view=grid Avoid Acer like the plague, and likewise any notebook that has a Celeron processor - go for Intel duo or Intel Pentium. I haven't bought from laptopsdirect or PC World. I build my own PC's.
 Share this content via...
CPC464 10 #5 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) Chromebook is nice, but not for Minecraft. Looking online it may be possible to run it in chrome OS very badly with a lot of work, although even then it looks unplayable alternatively you could install Ubuntu on it and run it that way - this means completely replacing the operating system which is probably not ideal for a 12 year old. CPC464 10 #8 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) The other thing is for that money you could get an iPad There's a minecraft ipad version, and youtube app. For the school work you could buy a bluetooth keyboard and use QuickOffice (which is free) Edited October 29, 2013 by CPC464
 Share this content via...
