Sheffield Arts Walks - Exploring Sheffield's Secret Spaces

Recommended Posts

If you enjoy walking, discovering forgotten secrets and getting arty, come along and join us on our two Arts Walks!

We're running two exciting cross-platform Arts Walks that aim to rediscover the lost and forgotten spaces around Sheffield. We'll be making our way down hidden pathways, discovering forgotten sites and searching for a buried history amongst post-apocalyptic landscapes.

The first of these walks will take place between 10.30am-1.30pm on Saturday 26th October and will be exploring the area around Parkwood Springs. Over a four mile route, you will explore the mixture of well-known and secret paths surrounding Parkwood’s city-centre rubbish tip, visit the long-forgotten Wardsend Cemetery and trace the overgrown roads of a forgotten community, taking part in arts and writing activities as you go. The walk will depart from the Infirmary Road tram stop and will cover some steep and rough terrain, so is recommended only for confident walkers.

The second will be on Saturday 2nd November and will be rediscovering the history of Cuthbert Bank and the site of Kelvin Flats. Departing from outside the Zest Centre/ Upperthorpe Library at 10.30am, the two mile walk visits the site of Kelvin Flats, sharing the history and memories of previous residents. It then continues to Cuthbert Bank, where the hulks of old pigeon lofts sit amongst the trees, before culminating in indoor arts activities and refreshments at Hillsborough Park.

Both walks will feature opportunities to engage in arts activities. We recommend you wear sturdy shoes and bring appropriate clothing! Check out the Facebook events for more details.
