How much to unlock a i phone 3gs

I am sure that i phones on 3g cannot be unlocked. I asked at a few places, and was told the same, they can't do 3g. I didn't buy the phone, spent a bit more and got one that was unlocked.

Assuming its payg, they'll unlock it for a small fee, if its x contract they'll do it free.

Orange will unlock it for £20.42 providing you are the original owner of the phone and had it at least six months. They are unfortunatley the hardest network to get an unlock from. The person who gave the phone to you could request the unlock for if it was originally their phone and was on Orange for more than 6 months.
