New junior parkrun at Hillsborough - get involved!
Discussions are underway to start a new junior parkrun over in Hillsborough. Anyone interested in being involved please contact Linda Cairns who is leading on this exciting parkrun project. Linda recently relocated to Sheffield from Guildford where she set up the 5k parkrun in 2012 and the junior parkrun in 2015. So you are in capable and enthusiastic hands! Volunteering at junior parkrun is hugely rewarding. If you would like to help, or just find out more, then please email hillsborough@parkrun.com with your name & telephone number. Your details will be forwarded on to Linda, who will keep you in the loop. Go on, just do it! There is already agreement in principle for Hillsborough park to host the event, there is just the little matter of building a team and securing funding which is well under way!

There were fewer parkrun events in the Yorkshire & Humber region this week, and consequently fewer parkrunners. However, those that did attend still did so in historically high numbers.

So last week all Yorkshire & Humber region parkruns were completed before the storm hit in the afternoon. This week, there were a number of cancellations, principally as a result of damage suffered last weekend, but also in anticipation of Storm Dennis this Saturday.

There were 50/60 parkruns in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Cancellations were at Brighouse, Castle Howard, Centre Vale, Fountains Abbey, Goole, New Earswick, Normanby Hall, Penistone, Storthes Hall and Wetherby.

Of 50 events completed both last week and this, 12 had higher attendances and 30 were lower.

Total attendance was 12387, a decrease of 4118 (25.0%) from the previous week.

Bowling Park & Catterick both had attendances of 201, Barnsley & Sewerby had 177 and Humber Bridge & Nostell had 124.

Niche stat:
The attendance of 572 at Sheffield Hallam means that the only attendance figure between 10-627 never recorded for any parkrun in the region is 538.

The average weekly attendance over the last 12 months has increased by 24.8% (10347 to 12909). The mean attendance per parkrun per week over the history of parkrun for the region is 212.4; the median is 172.

NB Doncaster parkrun has now changed its name to Sandall Park. Given that the location is the same, all records for Doncaster are transferred to the new name.

‎Andrew Tup‎ to parkrun statsgeek group
Today parkrun recognised International Women’s Day. The weather was much improved compared with much of February (the wettest on record), leading to a significant increase in events and runners across the Yorkshire & Humber region.

There were 57*/60 parkruns in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Cancellations were at Brighouse, Storthes Hall and Wetherby.

Of 46* events completed both last week and this, 31 had higher attendances and 15 were lower.

Total attendance was 15331, an increase of 2964 (24.0%) from the previous week.

On their fifth anniversary, Halifax (283) had a record attendance, marginally beating the attendance at their inaugural event. The mantle of oldest record attendance at an inaugural passes to Northallerton (1 August 2015).
Three out of four of Halifax’s highest attendances have been set over the last four events, bucking the trend of much of the rest of the region.

Roundhay & Scunthorpe both had attendances of 417, Sewerby & Skipton both had 220 and Bramley & Rotherham had 175.

Niche stat;
There have been exactly 1000 parkruns (out of 14976) that have had attendances between 401-500.

The average weekly attendance over the last 12 months has increased by 19.6% (10731 to 12838). The mean attendance per parkrun per week over the history of parkrun for the region is 212.8; the median is 172.

*-Sheffield Hallam to be added.
