Flanker7   20 #1370 Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) Andrew Tup Plenty of parkruns again this week, with the weather not doing enough to impact the majority of events in the Yorkshire and the Humber region. 57/61 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Of the current regular series the only cancellations were Cleethorpes and Normanby Hall. Total attendance was 8333, a decrease of 376 (4.3%) over last week. Huddersfield had the largest attendance this week with 467; the smallest was at Horton Park (23). Of the 56 events that also took place last week, 25 saw an increase in attendance and 31 were lower. The last time the cumulative regional attendance was fewer than 10000 for three consecutive weeks was 15 December 2018. This was also the last time any parkrun in the region had an attendance fewer than 23 (Horton Park, 22). Somewhat surprisingly, of the major records that were set last week, one was broken again and another equalled! There were 24 events with attendances under 100 and 30 events under 120. Barnsley staged its 500th event and serendipitously there was an attendance of 68 for Centre Vale’s 68th event. The rolling weekly regional average of 11939* over the last two years represents a decrease of 2.0% when compared with the previous year (12188).  Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 11th & 12th December 2021.  80 - Graves-Juniors, 46 - Hillsborough Juniors 26 - Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park -Juniors, Joint 2nd lowest ever Total = 152    66 - Concord  421 - Endcliffe  124 - Graves  273 - Hillsborough  235 - Millhouses   70 - Castle Total = 1,189  187 - Rother Valley   79 - Clifton Park Total = 266  Overall Total = 1,607 Edited December 12, 2021 by Flanker7
 Share this content via...

Flanker7   20 #1374 Posted January 2, 2022  Yorkshire parkruns - collect them all! Andrew Tup  · 11h  ·  The weather felt more like September than January with temperatures a balmy 13C at 0900. A change in parkrun policy meant 1st January 2022 saw parkrunners ‘doubles’ limited to their drinks celebrations as they welcomed the New Year. Consequently, and with 1st January also falling on a Saturday, there is no direct comparison for attendance figures from previous weeks or years. Previous years figures will have seen many runners complete two events. Whereas Christmas and New Year has seen many attendance records in the past, this was never going to be the case this year. However, the key figures for today’s events in the Yorkshire and the Humber region are shown below. There were 45 events staged with an aggregate attendance of 8586. Of the 29 venues that also staged events on 1 January 2020, two (Dalby Forest and Millfield) had higher attendances and 27 had lower attendances. The highest attendance was at York (564) and lowest at Bowling Park (20). The Cinder Track (171) set a new record attendance. Fountains Abbey and Millhouses both had attendances of 382; Dalby Forest and Sandall Park both had 191. Of 16294 events staged across the region, on only 35 occasions has there been an attendance fewer than Bowling Park’s 20 (plus seven previous instances of 20). The last time there was a lower attendance anywhere in the region was 26 December 2015 (Concord, 16). (NB Wetherby had 20 on 23 Jan 2016.) Centre Vale’s attendance was the 80th occasion in the region of an attendance of exactly 80. The rolling weekly regional average of 11814* over the last two years represents a decrease of 3.7% when compared with the previous year (12267). *For an explanation of how this is calculated see the note posted on 24 July 2021. Flanker7   20 #1376 Posted January 9, 2022 (edited)  Yorkshire parkruns - collect them all! Andrew Tup  · c12053gShof80c9h1edt  · facebook *  A big contrast in the weather between New Year’s Day and today across the Yorkshire and the Humber region impacted significantly the number of events taking place and therefore the overall attendance. 45/61 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Of the regular series, cancellations were all due to ice on or impacting the routes. Total attendance was 7481, a decrease of 1571 (17.4%) compared with 18-Dec-2021 (the last ‘normal’ week). York had the largest attendance this week with 486; the smallest was at Horton Park (37). Of the 45 events that also took place on 18 Dec, 22 saw an increase in attendance, 22 were lower and one (Cleethorpes (89)) was the same. Brighouse and Rothwell both had attendances of 231, Skipton and Temple Newsam both had 107, Chevin Forest and Selby both had 97 and Armley and Potternewton both had 75. There was one attendance record: Chevin Forest had fewer than 100 runners for the first time. There have now been exactly 37 instances of an attendance of 37 and 75 instances of an attendance of 75! The rolling weekly regional average of 11654* over the last two years represents a decrease of 5.3% when compared with the previous year (12308).   The fastest and slowest parkruns in the UK. Flanker7   20 #1378 Posted January 10, 2022 (edited) Speedy in Sheffield - 8/9th January. Moving closer to home, Sheffield played host to one of the first elite-level indoor races of 2022 and the first British Milers Club competition of the year. The BMC Indoor GP included high-quality fields over 800m and 1500m, alongside 3000m for men and 5000m for women. The rarely-run nature of the 5000m indoors did not stop a deep field from assembling and, after 25 laps, it was Amelia Quirk who crossed the line first. Not only that, her time of 15:27.76 is an English Record and the third best all-time by a Brit indoors, behind Laura Muir and Liz McColgan. It is also a Commonwealth Games qualifier for the Bracknell athlete who finished fifth at last year’s European Indoor Championships over 3000m. https://www.fastrunning.com/running-athletics-news/stunning-10km-for-cairess-in-valencia-weekend-roundup/33791?fbclid=IwAR09GAG2CPxyvCLIwwJA05c2JB3a9_ISm4c6MTImKpv-oLIWlwaeudFzrbU Edited January 10, 2022 by Flanker7
 Share this content via...
Flanker7   20 #1379 Posted January 16, 2022  parkrun statsgeek group Andrew Tup  · 14t02l17ahnlttor6e0  ·  The wintery weather took its toll once again across the Yorkshire and the Humber region for the second consecutive week. A heavy overnight frost and a freezing fog that didn’t lift before 9am resulted in several cancellations. 43/61 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region. As with last week, cancellations were all due to ice on or impacting the routes. In such circumstances, it can be the case that for those events that do take place, attendances can be down somewhat, however this does also provide the opportunity for the opposite to happen as runners tour to events they wouldn’t normally visit. I was a little surprised that this week’s aggregate attendance for the region was the highest for eight weeks (cf 20 Nov 2021 = 11357). Total attendance was 9234, an increase of 1753 (23.4%) compared with last week. For something of a change, Endcliffe, at its 500th event, had the largest attendance this week with 638; the smallest was at Sheffield Castle (58). Of the 33 events that also took place last week, 30 saw an increase in attendance and three were lower. Not only was the attendance at Endcliffe the highest across the region since the return of parkrun on 24 July 2021, it was the first above 600 since 7 March 2020 (when there were four venues above 600: Endcliffe 700, Huddersfield 776, Hull 651 & Woodhouse Moor 641). Bradford and Fountains Abbey both had attendances of 304, Sandall Park and Swerby both had 194, and Barnsley and Cliffe Castle both had 100. The mean weekly cumulative attendance across the region for the history of parkrun has now reached 5000 (5002 to be precise) for the first time. The rolling weekly regional average of 11537* over the last two years represents a decrease of 6.7% when compared with the previous year (12362).
