Another new event made it three in the last nine weeks across the Yorkshire and Humber region. (There have been four new events over the last six months of parkrunning weekends.)

58/62 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region. I think the stags have calmed down a bit at Normanby Hall, but clearly not enough for their event to take place!

Total attendance was 11405, an increase of 104 (0.9%) over last week. The cumulative attendance has increased for each of the last four weeks, but never by more than 3%. The largest attendance was at Endcliffe (549); the smallest was at Horton Park (40). Of the events that also took place last week, 20 saw an increase in attendance and 36 saw a decrease.

The new event was The Cinder Track and saw an attendance of 74. I don’t think I’m sticking my neck out by saying it’ll beat that next week!

Roberts Park and Sewerby both had attendances of 247, Heslington and Rothwell had 216, Concord and Temple Newsam had 148, Nostell and Penistone had 145, Bramley, Halifax and Humber Bridge had 125, Potternewton and Rotherham had 106 and Myrtle and Wetherby had 87. This was the second consecutive week that Bramley and Humber Bridge’s attendances were the same.

Since last week, the parkrun with the highest growth in attendance has changed from *Concord (16.4%) to Sheffield Castle (16.9%).

The rolling weekly regional average of 12110* over the last two years represents a decrease of 1.5% when compared with the previous year (12297).

*Concord was the venue for the first round of the Sheffield Striders  'parkrun cup'. The club hold this competition every year where pairs of entrants are drawn against each other. Their times on the day are compared and the nearest to their parkrun pb goes through to the next round. This year there were 128.  Occaisionaly the ties are 3 headers to give even numbers for the next round.

Oh deer! Well that sumion at Normanby Hall. As for the rest of the Yorkshire and the Humber region, read on.

54/62 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Of the current regular events, as well as Normanby Hall, events were cancelled at Conyngham Hall, Penistone, Wakefield Thornes and Wetherby.

Total attendance was 11324, an increase of 1395 (14.0%) over last week. The largest attendance was at Huddersfield (560); the smallest was at Horton Park (41). Of the events that also took place last week, 37 saw an increase in attendance, 13 saw a decrease and one, Goole (140), was the same. This was almost a complete reversal of the increases/decrease seen last week.

There were plenty of ‘doubles’:

Rother Valley and Rothwell both had attendances of 258, Cleethorpes and Temple Newsam had 164, Bramley and Halifax had 124, Concord and Cross Flatts had 113, Rotherham and The Cinder Track had 100, Cliffe Castle and Selby had 93 and Bowling Park and Potternewton both had 74.

It seems remarkable that of the 16 weeks since the return of parkrun at the end of July, 14 weeks have seen cumulative attendances for the region in the small range of 10610-11956.

The rolling weekly regional average of 12237* over the last two years represents an increase of 0.34% when compared with the previous year (12195).

I suppose the biggest news across the Yorkshire and the Humber region was the return – after a four week absence – of the event at Normanby Hall.

59/62 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Other than the three events that haven’t returned since parkrun restarted in July, there weren’t any cancellations. The only occasions on which more events took place across the region were on 25 January and 8 February 2020 (60 events each). There have also been only two other occasions when 59 events took place (4 January and 1 February 2020).

Total attendance was 11587, an increase of 263 (2.3%) over last week. Huddersfield and York continue to trade places for the largest attendance. This week the largest attendance – by one - was at York (574); the smallest was at Horton Park (35). Of the events that also took place last week, 20 saw an increase in attendance, 33 saw a decrease and one, Selby (93), was the same.

As with last week, there were a number of ‘doubles’:

Beverley Westwood and Graves both had attendances of 214, Cleethorpes and Skipton had 150, Bramley and Dalby Forest had 138, Millfield and Rotherham had 114, Cross Flatts and Potternewton had 97 and Cliffe Castle and Northallerton both had 74.

The rolling weekly regional average of 12257* over the last two years represents an increase of 0.68% when compared with the previous year (12174).

This week in the Yorkshire and the Humber region, there were two new attendance records. No prizes for guessing that both were at the two newest events: Roberts Park (294) and The Cinder Track (144).

59/62 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Total attendance was 11357, a decrease of 230 (2.0%) over last week. Huddersfield took bragging rights for the largest attendance this week with 580; the smallest was at Bowling Park (38). Of the events that also took place last week, 27 saw an increase in attendance, 31 saw a decrease and one, Humber Bridge (110), was the same.

Events that had the same attendance were: Roundhay and Sandall Park both had 245, Penistone and The Cinder Track had 144 and Armley, Dalby Forest and Selby all had 114.

Of the 63 events that have taken place across Yorkshire and the Humber, only one, Millhouses, has never had an attendance below 200. Their lowest attendance of 207 took place on 31 July 2021.

The rolling weekly regional average of 12245* over the last two years represents an increase of 0.58% when compared with the previous year (12175).

Storm Arwen wreaked havoc across the country and certainly across the Yorkshire and the Humber region, bringing winds of 50mph+ and snow and ice to most areas. All parkrunners should be grateful to the Run Directors who have difficult decisions to make in these situations, whether to cancel and disappoint many or to go ahead knowing there are potential safety risks.

12/62 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region. This was one of those weeks when it’s easier to list the events that went ahead:

Beverley Westwood, Cusworth Hall, Frickley Country, Goole, Heslington, Pontefract, Roundhay, Sandall Park, Scunthorpe, Sewerby, The Cinder Track and York.

Total attendance was 1340, a decrease of 10017 (88.2%) over last week. York had the largest attendance this week with 266; the smallest was at Frickley Country (37). All 12 events that took place saw a lower attendance than last week. (I can’t recall this happening previously.)

Given all the above, it is certainly a week for record collectors. Take your pick from the following:

- Fewest events since 3 March 2018 (

- Lowest region attendance since 25 Dec 2013 (1219); lowest on a Saturday since 23 March 2013 (617)

- Largest absolute decrease in region attendance. Previously 2 Feb 2019 (9322)

- Largest percentage decrease. Previously 3 Mar 2018 (83.7%; 10332 to 1684). Other than these there has only been one other drop of over 80% which was in 2009 when Woodhouse Moor was the only parkrun.

- Cusworth Hall (42 events) and Heslington (123) had their lowest ever attendances. Three other venues had comparatively low attendances: Pontefract (lowest since 13/12/14, attendance 94), Scunthorpe (13/06/15, 126), Sewerby (13/07/13, 46)

The rolling weekly regional average of 12028* over the last two years represents a decrease of 0.97% when compared with the previous year (12146).

The weather was far from perfect for December’s first parkrun this year, but it was a significant improvement on last week! As well as records relating to the increase in attendance, the big news in the Yorkshire and the Humber region was the announcement of the closure of Storthes Hall parkrun.

58/61 events took place across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Of the current regular series the only cancellation was Horton Park.

Total attendance was 8709, an increase of 7369 (550%) over last week. York had the largest attendance this week with 463; the smallest was at Frickley Country (44). Of the 12 events that took place both weeks, 10 saw an increase in attendance and, somewhat surprisingly, two were lower.

This is another week for a number of records:

- 2nd highest increase in attendance ever (record of 7455 on 10 Mar 2018); only third instance of 7000+

- Greatest percentage increase in attendance. (Previous record 451% on 2 Feb 2013; only three previous instances above 300%.)

New records were set for the number of events with attendances below 100, 120, 150 & 200:

- under 100: 22 events (previous record 19 on 4 occasions, most recent 14/12/19)

- under 120: 30 events (previous 27 on 26/10/19)

- under 150: 38 events (previous 36 on 23/11/19)

- under 200: 45 events (previous 42 on 14/12/19)

The rolling weekly regional average of 12005 over the last two years represents a decrease of 1.2% when compared with the previous year (12150).
