The parkrun thread

Recommended Posts

Sheffield CC has given permission for parkrun to restart on Saturday 5th June. All we need now is for parkrun HQ to give the go ahead. However, the word on the street is that nationally a minimum of 50% need their permissions granted for parkrun to give the green light. 70-80% would be best.

Then there is London in general and Bushy in particular. Bushy is seen by some as a deal breaker, their 1000 runners would literally over-run other London venues if only a few are ready and have permission to restart.

Yes. Problem would be if a smaller number of park runs return, they'd be inundated with people travelling from park runs which don't return. Fingers crossed, all goes well!

Waiting for the Friday bullitin........

We continue to work hard with landowners for 5k events in England, receiving the permissions necessary to reopen events on 5 June. We currently have full or partial permission from landowners representing 237 events, and are working with another 270 landowners at various stages of the process. Meanwhile we are waiting to hear from a further group of landowners representing 63 events.

Looks like the planned return of parkrun in England is getting there - overall about 2/3 of parkruns have agreement to return on 26th June. But there sill needs to be significant progress in London. Also Newcastle and Manchester need more parkruns to join the list before the 11th June decision date.

This Corona distancing advice is from a Yorkshire parkrun:-

The National Trust are still carefully managing capacity on site. After you’ve finished your run/walk please make your way straight back up to the car parks. We will all have plenty to catch up on but we’ll need to clear the area quickly to allow Trust visitors in.
We’ll be trialling how the first couple of runs work for safety around social distancing. For this reason we ask that parkrunners do not use the restaurant on 26 June and 3 July. This will help us work out logistics so we can get back to coffee and cake with friends again, one of the most enjoyable parts of the whole thing!
Be patient with scanning and results processing. We're all having to use the smartphone app (for scanning and timekeeping) to minimise handling, so there's a learning curve for a lot of people there;
All runners will be running the usual route and if it’s a big turnout runners will be backed up from the start line, down towards the West Gate. We're planning to be running our usual route.
Because of this, don't try and smash a PB or run aggressively; it may take you a minute or two to cross the start line! A nice chilled-out, relaxed run/walk for everyone is appropriate I think, for this first one or two at least.
Anyone with any misgivings or who's nervous about social distancing etc, the advice is to leave your return to a later date; we're here every week and there's always next week.
