Good News from Saudi Arabia!

The Saudi Cabinet have made domestic and workplace violence against women - both physical and sexual - illegal for the first time in the Kingdom's history. Those found guilty could face fines of up to $13000 or 12 months in jail.

The law should just be the same for males and females. If that is what has happened then it is a good thing.

There will be a law -- but who will enforce it?

Will it be enforced "without fear and without favour"? or will it only be used against those without powerful friends?

If it can be used without bias it's a positive step, I doubt it will, that will take a long time. Power can buy you a lot, even in countries that are "civilised" and democratic.

 

Regardless though, it's an encouraging first step.

This is good news but there is still a long way to go, as a woman's testimony is worth half that of a man in Sharia law.
