The rising sun pub on Abbey lane is open on Christmas day. I presume they have a menu already and I think you would have to book.

The last two meals have had at the Rising Sun (Abbey Lane) were not much to write home about. In fact my friend had to send her pudding back it was so awful. I wouldn't bother.................

Xmas should always be worth the effort to stay at home and cook a good meal and save money...............too easy to go out and spend!

This year my family will only get to spend Christmas Day together. Everyone has travel plans following the big day so I thought it might be easier to eat out than buy food that might end up wasted. Can anyone suggest a good venue. We live in the Carterknowle Rd area so a couple of miles radius of here would be good.:)

It depends what price bracket you are looking at. We had a lovely Christmas day lunch at the Prince of Wales the other year... helped by the fact we could walk there and both drink without having to worry about taxis! However, it's not cheap at £69 (this year's prices). See here:

The Robin Hood at Millhouses are advertising very good prices at £39.95 for a 4 course meal, see here:

A little further afield, there is the Dore Moor In at £52.95, see here:

Or the Fox House at £49.95, see here:

Or the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow for £49.95:

There is also the Millhouses, but not sure if they are open on Christmas day as I can't find a website for them.

The hotels nearby include Kenwood Hall Hotel, The Beauchief Hotel etc but they are also usually pretty expensive.
