cosywolf   10 #232 Posted January 8, 2015 This may help:  http://www.wildsheffield.com/smithywood  More recently, Cowley Residents Action Group (CRAG) have had their first hearing with regards to their application for Smithy Wood to be protected by Town or Village Green status. The Council’s Licensing Board met to hear the CRAGs evidence about how much the local community have enjoyed walking in the woodlands over many decades. In turn the objectors (the land owners, St Pauls) were there to argue that this is not the case. The first hearing resulted in the process being deferred to a later date, with the Council seeking the involvement of an independent Public Inspector to review the evidence on their behalf. We and the Woodland Trust attended the hearing in support of CRAG, hoping to give evidence of use, but the hearing was over very quickly. We wait for further information on the next step. truman   10 #234 Posted January 9, 2015 And if you come off the roundabout at junction 35 where it is proposed you only have to drive just under a mile into the centre of Chapeltown where there are countless places to eat, 2 pubs that do accommodation and public toilets. I know it would create new jobs but why not support the local businesses that are already in situ and avoid them struggling in this climate more than they have to.  I can see the headlines now "Chapeltown residents object to the amount of motorway traffic going through town" How many vehicles do you reckon use a motorway services in a day? geared   319 #235 Posted January 9, 2015 Perhaps if more vehicles went through Chapeltown it'd give the council the kick up the arse they need to finally do something about the roads around there, they get clogged up so easily. No User Name   10 #236 Posted January 9, 2015 Local villages are never signposted off motorways in terms of services available there such as toilets etc, thats why "service stations" exist
 Share this content via...

geared   319 #240 Posted April 17, 2015 Maybe they've got something planned for the brownfield site, but on the proviso that they build the service station on the woods??  Would make a cracking place to stick a logistics firm or something. Awesome M1 access, right next to the service station so easy to find and easy fuel.  Good public transport access for the workers, etc etc etc.
 Share this content via...
