scootertuner   10 #1 Posted August 16, 2013 hello my graphics card can use PCI-E 3.0 16x. but my motherboard is only PCI-E 2.0 16x what motherboards are on the market for amd fx 8 core cpu and will it make my gaming experience any better
 Share this content via...
geared   316 #2 Posted August 16, 2013 I don't think AMD have any motherboards with PCI-E 3.0.  The reason being the 9000 series chipset that most AM3+ motherboards use is nearly 2 years old now and was launched before PCI-3.0 cards were available.  PCI-E 3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0 from what I've heard, and IIRC the difference in graphics performance is limited at best. ShefStealth   10 #5 Posted August 17, 2013 The main questions here would be, what Graphics card are you currently running and what's your monitor's native resolution? Once we know that, we can determine the card's memory width, the core/memory clock and then determine exactly how much bandwidth it requires. It will probably be that PCIE3 won't give you much over what you're currently running (which is probably PCIE2 or 2.1) it may just save some power requirements. terrorfirma   10 #6 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) And ASUS have poor customer service  Not in my experience. Recently needed a new bios chip for my P67 Sabertooth. Emailed Asus customer service and four days later it arrived with up-to-date bios installed. I couldn't have been happier. I'm not saying this has been everyones experience but I'm sure everyone has their own customer service horror story  Personally I wouldn't consider changing the mobo. The difference you would see would be marginal at best. Save your money towards a full upgrade (mobo, memory & cpu). Just my opinion though, no doubt someone will disagree.. walkerx   10 #7 Posted August 17, 2013 better experience than i have had with the company - when i was querying an issue with P67 Sabertooth and the Intel 6gb SATA causing my SSD's to crash (BSOD), I got no help from them - I've had to put the SSD on the Marvel ports where it's never had any issues.  The ASUS RT-N66U I have, which is supposed to work with multicasting (IGMP) doesn't work and had no help from them in diagnosing the fault - even when I asked them to refer to a UK Specialist they didn't bother - Because of them causing a delay in dealing/diagnosing it meant I couldn't return the product for full refund. I've just given up with their non-existent support and now left with a router I can't use for it's full potential I purchased it for.  Their final statement was Because if you setup correctly with the router and your IPTV, your IPTV could work with the router normally. Now your IPTV could not work with the router since you setup correctly. This may be the compatible issue between them.  I only got that router because my TP-Link died after a firmware upgrade and then when speaking to TP-Link we found it was in last month of 3 year warranty so they replaced it without any issues - i got the same device but a newer revision model - and it only took 1 week.  My ASUS Transformer TF101 they gave up on support of that within the first years of the product's life  TBH I don't know why I went back with ASUS especially as the 1st motherboard I ever got from them (over 10 years ago) had issues and they confirmed that even though they advertised as being cpu upgradeable it actually wasn't, but luckily the shop I got them from took them back as they.  Yes, ASUS may make nice products, but they after support is appauling, especially as there is no direct email from their website to contact UK Support and only was seems if you are at home Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. Ghozer   112 #8 Posted August 17, 2013 You honestly won't notice a difference in real world performance between PCI-e 2.0 and 3.0... you will only really notice a benefit if using CrossFire or SLI...  ---------- Post added 17-08-2013 at 22:02 ----------   Yes, ASUS may make nice products, but they after support is appauling, especially as there is no direct email from their website to contact UK Support and only was seems if you are at home Mon-Fri 9am-5pm.  Never had an issue with their support, it's always been prompt and very professional for me..  They have the support form on the website..  http://vip.asus.com/VIP2/Services/QuestionForm/TechQuery  I can see why they do it this way, instead of just an email address, so that they know they have the information they need from the word go, instead of someone just emailing them saying "this doesn't work, help"
 Share this content via...
walkerx   10 #9 Posted August 17, 2013 Had issues logging from their support form on a few different PCs running different is and browsers. In end had to log through their complaints form.  The replies i got seemed to be worse than a bot, but it bad everthing is from abroad and no input from uk technical support.
