Fotini   10 #1 Posted August 16, 2013 Hello! I am moving to Sheffield next month to study in the University and I bring my two cats with me. I used to take them to a Vet specialised in cats only in my country so I wonder, is any such vet in Sheffield? Or if there isn't anyone, could you recommend me a good vet? I will live in Walkley (S6 area), but I wouldn't mind the distance. Every answer appreciated!
 Share this content via...
Elizabeth13 Â Â 10 #2 Posted August 16, 2013 I don't think you get 'just cat' vets here. Â I recommend Peak Vets myself. Have been to Broomhill's, but prefer Peak Vets.
 Share this content via...

midgecat   10 #4 Posted August 16, 2013 Peak are good - but in my experience Millhouses Vets4Pets are a lot more cat oriented and I prefer them. http://www.vets4pets.com/find-a-practice/vets4pets-millhouses/
 Share this content via...
spats   10 #5 Posted August 16, 2013 Peak Vets, Olivet Road S8. Excellent practice, very experienced vets & exceptionally helpful vet nurses & reception staff. Whichever practice you choose, remember to ask about the out of hours service that they provide. Peak have 24 hour 7 days a week emergency cover at their premises & have overnight staff to monitor the in patients. Not all vets offer 24hr emergency cover, in which case you end up paying through the nose (up front) for emergency treatment from 'Vets Now' organisation which uses the PDSA premises at Newhall Road. (Not somehwere I would choose to take my poorly cat).
 Share this content via...

midgecat   10 #7 Posted August 16, 2013 [/color] I see in their website that they offer a Care 4 Pets Healthcare plan, have you tried it?  Sooty has the care for pets monthly plan. He's elderly and has a few health problems so getting unlimited free consultations when he's looking a bit off colour is brilliant.  Honey and Amber are signed up to their vaccs4 life plan which is a big saving - though maybe not worth it if you're only going to be here temporarily.  People go on about Peak and its 24 hour cover - I've no doubt that's a good thing to have. However I've had dozens of vet visits over the ast few years and none of them (thank goodness, touch wood etc) have needed to be out of hours. Vets4Pets always seem interested in my cats, and my cats like them. I don't really find it the same at Peak. Vets4Pets have also been very kind to me in offering excellent discounts for rescue cats that I bring in. I'd wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone, indeed most of the people who have adopted cats from me use them and are very happy with them. Fotini   10 #8 Posted August 16, 2013 Well, both Peak and Vet4Pets are very far away from Walkley for someone who does not drive, like me. But if they are good, I won't mind taking them there. Is it possible to get in a taxi with a pet in its carrier?
 Share this content via...
scousemouse   10 #9 Posted August 16, 2013 vets4pets are very nice people, but be aware that if your pet needs attention after about 7pm you have to go to the P D S A in Attercliffe. Peak vets have 'in house' staff who live on the premises. They are fabulous!!!
 Share this content via...

Fotini   10 #12 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Thank you! It seems that opinions differ regarding which vet is better, Vet4pets or Peak Vets! As long as a vet recognises the special needs and organism of a feline, it will be someone a cat owner could trust..
