Steward hit by police horse at Deepdale

Recommended Posts

Video from last nights League Cup pitch invasion at Preston. The incident happens in the goalmouth about 57secs into the clip. Nobody seems to be asking this, but does the Preston fan deliberately push the steward into the horse's path?

The fan gets away from the police, then the steward tries to stop him, not noticing the horse approaching.

I was at the game last night but didn't see the incident as I sit at the opposite end but just to clear up anything you may have seen in the media this morning the club have released a statement about the steward:

Contrary to early press reports the steward that was seen on TV in contact with a police horse was not taken to hospital and went home with colleagues after being given the all clear by medical staff at the ground.

The only steward to receive any injuries at the stadium was working in a part of the stadium occupied by the visiting supporters.

This action is to be deplored, but it seems that nothing still has been learnt from that L****s fan slapping Kirkland, had he a knife then who knows he could have killed the player.

Perhaps it's time to have fencing erected alongside the pitch.

I tend to agree there but really thought we were past all that, but recent events are proving that something needs to be done. If not fencing then a mesh material that allows fans to watch, but stops fans and missiles going on the pitch.

Another thing that has been used in years gone by, is a moat sort of thing all round the pitch.

We tried submerging the whole pitch in four foot of water a few years back:(

Preston should be forced to pay some games behind closed doors.

Interesting comment. I hope you apply this logic to all teams that have pitch invasions.
