Clown Shoes   10 #193 Posted July 25, 2013 Of course this is phase two. First was blocking torrent sites. Now they have a subject that no one will publicly come out against. Next will be removing the choice to turn off the filter, which will be phase 3. Phase 4 is adding anything they want to the filter, things that current government don't want you to see, independent news, bloggers etc etc.  It is only a matter of time.  In before "tin foil hat time".  Are you saying that they shouldnt block torrent sites? Obelix   11 #194 Posted July 25, 2013 Are you saying that they shouldnt block torrent sites?  All sites that provide torrents? Torrents in general? You download an awful lot of software these days via torrent...
 Share this content via...
Cyclone   10 #195 Posted July 25, 2013 Are you saying that they shouldnt block torrent sites?  Of course torrents and torrent sites shouldn't be blocked, they have many legitimate uses. You wouldn't recommend that petrol be banned just because it can be used for arson would you?
 Share this content via...
willman   10 #196 Posted July 25, 2013 As for restrictions on streaming video to comply with bought ones, what a joke. I watched a 10 year old buy an 18+ rated game from a "reseller" in CP market yesterday. What point is unenforced regulation. The torrent site blocking was the result of music/film company pressure, this current action is because no-one can really object to the 'must protect you from moral corruption' arguement.  We all know that ANY government hates dissidents or anyone who questions their 'superior' intelligence and ability to know what is best for us - my favourite bug-bear of H&S legislation (or its interpretation) - is a classic example - therefore phase 4 is a given.  <<<<runs before the government apologists jump on me:)
 Share this content via...
Mecky   10 #198 Posted July 25, 2013 At the end of the day I can't seeing it having much impact. If people want it bad enough they'll get it by any means necessary.
 Share this content via...

The government is not the arbiter of morals nor my parent, it has no place in protecting me from anything that is legal, and no place making things illegal based on moral judgements. What I probably should have said was that in this 'nanny-state' culture we now live in, is that the government THINKS no-one can object - I like you, certainly do.  ---------- Post added 25-07-2013 at 20:47 ----------  That's right, everyone wants different things from life.
