Ah yes Middle HanDley. The Devonshire Arms.

No wonder folk couldn't find it. It's like looking for Yok or Barnsey.

I am assuming the poster does mean Handley and not Hanley...

It does help when trying to find a place.

But clearly anyone who hasn't heard of Middle Handley hasn't attended the annual Birkfest.

It attracts around 1000 revelers as well as up to a dozen rock bands, bars, hog roasts, curry stalls, cake stalls etc.

You stick your car in one of the local fields for free or park at the side of the road anywhere between Marsh Lane and Staveley as there are no meters and not a yellow line in sight.

It is the same at the Devonshire Arms. It is a very nice pub witha top class restaurant. It has a big car park and even if that is full you simply park on the road outside. No parking charges. No long walks in the rain. No parking ticket when you go back to your car.

Barnsey is nice.

No wonder Barnsley Brewery shut down. They were advertising for the competition. :hihi:

No option to have a drink, since your car is parked outside.

WHEN YOU HAVE TRAFFIC WARDENS TICKETING IN THE EVENING THEN YOU KNOW YOU HAVE AN ANTI CAR POLICY

This is something I feel very strong about hence the capital letters and in bold

So enforcing parking restrictions in the evening is anti car? Should it be a free for all after 1700 or something?

It might help town centre shopping.

There's also the small fact that all the shops close between 1700 and 1800, so no amount of free for all parking in the evening is going to help them.

You clearly live in a different reality to the rest of the planet.

I didn't realise that traffic laws could be ignored after 6pm.

Clearly, because Sheffield city centre is well known for the shops staying open late.

Why, what planet do you live on?

Anyhow, this thread was initially about pubs and bars... not shops. Still awaiting to see hard evidence to show how these parking changes have impacted, if at all, on the bars and pubs.

Why is that?

Adults are quite capable of taking their friends to a restaurant and sharing a bottle of wine and then getting home. It is only Chavs that feel going to a pub or restaurant means drinking until you throw up on the pavement outside.
