Recommended Posts

no kurosawa fans out there ?("the seven samurai'")

I"ll be in japan in a few weeks time and i'm going to try and book two nights at what used to be his favourite ryokan in kyoto(a surprise for a friend who is a serious kurosawa fan)i I hope they can get me his favourite room.(looks a bit small:suspect: )

anyway the couple running the place sound like nice people.

quote/

Akira Kurosawa wrote many of his film scripts while in Kyoto, the ancient capital city of Japan. He stayed at Ryokan Ishihara. Mr Ishihara says as a boy he remembers Kurosawa returning year after year to his parent’s inn where he had a favourite room overlooking the courtyard garden. The inn was always full of visitors when Kurosawa was in residence. He would entertain friends in his rooms and write the scripts for his films.

Brief Encounter.

For a bit lighter the wonderful Ealing comedies, probably Lavender Hill Mob.

The Hustler. Its a travesty that it didn't win an Oscar but the rubbish sequel "the color of money" did.

I can't think of a better portrayal of a talented but tortured man. Piper Laurie, Gleason, Scott all at the top of their game.
