I can only see westward out of my flat in town - I can't see any smoke up in Hillsborough; I wonder if the OP has just put Hillsborough accidentally? I imagine their son could well be on Langsett looking towards town seeing the smoke.

Smoke is blowing up towards Oughtibridge as well. Can see it from my bedroom window.

 

Wonder what caused the fire. If it is the scrap yard place, then that could take some putting out.

The big black plume of smoke is defo not from Hillsborough. It isn't in that direction. The other thread confirmed that it isn't Hillsborough.
