moke   10 #60 Posted July 16, 2013 just look at sheffield, apart from around the peace gardens, the rest is a mess, its a dirty mucky hole, it is not a nice clean place, its just a friendly city with mostly friendly people in it,  People often say this - cant say i'm convinced.  nice parts of the city centre:  Peace Gardens Division Street & Dev Green Ecclesall Road (depending on your def. of centre) Tudor Square Leopold Square Train Station / Outdoor Space Chaple Walk  Acceptable Parts / areas with redeeming features:  West street (does what it says on the tin - chain pubs and restaurants on a big thoroughfare) Fargate (perfectly nice if bland high street) The Moor (used to be revolting, is currently nice, and will soon be very nice) The Canal Basin The Catherdral / Campo Lane (nice bars / pubs / resturaunts - improving area) Kelham Island (ace pubs and an interesting area, if mixed with some grim bits)  Grotty Parts of the city centre:  The Wicker (but only because of how it feels, as some of it looks great) The Castle Market Area (just revolting, dirty and threatening feeling) Broomhall (though why you'd need to go there if you didnt live there is moot) the stretch from the old derelict hotel up to the devonshire cat  there's some real gems in there, as good as any city (the indie pubs, theatre district, peace gardens and winter gardens), and some hidden / forgetten bits too (the graves gallery etc).  outside of all that, the rest falls inbetween the levels. at the end of the day, roads, car parks, loading bays, brownfield sites and industrial buildings aren't pretty anywhere, but are always present.  i honestly think the city centre has an undeserved reputation.
