I M F state UK economy to grow by 2%

Recommended Posts

No doubt if they are socialists he will think they are doing a good job!

If by 'he' you mean me then I'll tell you what I think.

The head finance ministers in those countries are locked into whatever happens in the Eurozone. It doesn't matter how good those finance ministers are, the Eurozone will screw em over.

Do I think the Euro was a bad idea? Yes I do?

Am I glad we didn't join? Absolutely. And we have politicians from all UK parties to thank for our overall reluctance to join.

That said, Osborne has managed to take what relative strengths we had compared to Eurozone countries and piddle them up the wall with three years of disastrous economic policy. By his own targets he has failed. Only the truly blind will refuse to recognise that.

Brown & Darling certainly left the economy in a state after their block of flats collapsed. So what would you think a reliable indication? How about the deficit between tax revenues and government spending?

I think the record figure for spending beyond your means was again down to Brown & Darling in 2009 with a staggering £159.6 billion overspend.

It doesn't matter who says what on any side of the political divide, it is still an inaccurate figure to measure the state of the economy. The few at the top have all the money while the masses have far far less. Since the figure is an average it gives a false viewpoint of the economy by upping the state for most people ... and that is not relective of society.

I respect any Labour party supporters opinion. I accept that a hundred years ago it was necessary for workers in heavy industry to be represented. However in power Labour have been an economic disaster. Not one Labour government has left power with the country solvent.

Attlee, Wilson, Callaghan, Blair/Brown. Ramsey Macdonald had the sense to ally himself with other parties. Socialism has failed.

The Tories will, as they have done throughout the hundred years of Labour failure, put things right. At the next election they will gain an absolute majority. You will then see a rapid improvement when freed from the shackles of the coalition.

Out of interest is your dislike of Labour and support for the Tories driven by your personal circumstances or that of the country?

Well I'm sorry mate but when Brown and Darling left power I was personally considerably better off than when the previous administration left.

I would also add that when this current administration leaves office (hopefully) that I expect to be worse off than when they came to power.

I'm sorry that you haven't experienced the same, clearly you are doing so much better under this lot than the previous administration.

So why were there more people out of work when labour left office in 2010 than when they took over in 1997. This is particularly odd as there were around 500,000 more students and almost 1 million more in the public sector.

It's probably best not to trust unemployment statistics from any government in the UK.

I do not dislike Labour, I voted for Blair once. I vote and support competence. The Labour party under Blair and Brown ended in economic disaster. The current Labour party is not fit to govern, it will take a generation to get rid of this lot. The foreseeable future is Tory if this country is to prosper.

It's well known that the figures are fudged. All parties in power do it.

Well, we're really prospering as a nation at the moment aren't we?

People need to realise that none of the main parties is better or worse than the other. All have pursued destructive policies over the last 30-40 years. The policies are the same, all neoliberal.

What Labour-Tories give us is a pretend left-right paradigm to argue within. It makes people happy because they think one offers an alternative to the other. Right now there is no alternative. They will give you the same thing and that is an agenda not focused on the people of this country but on the corporates who have taken control.

Wake up.

Compared to the rest of Europe yes we are.

The figures from the IMF are reliable. Hard headed international investors who are pouring money into the stock market and London property are not stupid. They know that as long as we have sensible sustainable economic policies this country is the place to be.

Wake up to what? What is your alternative? Socialism? What model? All have failed.

Neoliberal it may be, it has provided more people in work than ever in history, freedom of expression, a welfare system that is failing because of its generosity, but is recoverable.

We are the most blessed generation in history. Be Thankful.

But the Green's alternative hasn't been tried. Perhaps getting rid of all the cars, power stations, aeroplanes, ships and industry and planting broccoli in the Peace Gardens is just the answer to the world's problems.
