Clown Shoes   10 #1 Posted June 29, 2013 These posts really annoy me...  "I cant believe its closed. I havent been in years but im so gutted."  Or "Another Library closed. ive never been in but what a shame. I blame the government & budget cuts!"  Support your local business's and public amenities and they wont close. Simple  Rant over! deaf andy   10 #2 Posted June 29, 2013 i rubbed some margarine into a bruise thinking it would help. i can't believe it's not better.  joking aside, i think libraries are going to close or merge, but not disappear completely, major libraries such as the one on surrey street will be preserved. but the internet, ebooks and other technologies have reduced the need for public libraries. i haven't needed to go in one for many years, except to have some documents photocopied, now i have an all in one printer, i can do my own copies. firth park library offers much more than just book rental nowadays, and i think in years to come, books may be only a fraction of what they do there, if at all. Rupert_Baehr   10 #4 Posted June 29, 2013 One of the local libraries offers free e-book downloads.  "Support the competition! - Put us out of business."  They wont go out of business, however - they're the only library I know of which has books in English and my wife is one of their prime customers. They also offer IT services, photocopying etc.
 Share this content via...

Happ Hazzard   10 #6 Posted June 29, 2013 I remember people saying this when Woolworths closed. On questioning, they generally revealed they hadn't set foot in the place in over a decade.
 Share this content via...
sheffieldliz   10 #7 Posted June 30, 2013 like melthebell says....think about stocksbridge leisure centre.... My dad stopped this from closing when I was about 8 so twenty years ago and people said the same back then, where would they go etc but they are in the same position again as it is not being used enough and they are complaining again! I agree with the op support local businesses and amenities, then they will continue to be there!
 Share this content via...
Clown Shoes   10 #8 Posted June 30, 2013 I remember people saying this when Woolworths closed. On questioning, they generally revealed they hadn't set foot in the place in over a decade.  I think they asked people what they associated with Woolworth's and most people said PicknMix.  If you think about it, Woolworth's was just an expensive Pound shop. AngryDog   10 #12 Posted July 1, 2013 With the ability to be able to access most things over the Internet etc, one day there will be no real need to ever leave your home.  That thought concerns me and I think it may be something that I will witness in my own life time.
