Beccyboop   10 #61 Posted July 4, 2013 A white transit van passed through S6 yesterday morning, shouting "old iron" through a mega phone. At least they were not sneaking around like the others do.  No you don't mind if they do that at least they aren't scavenging in people's gardens. Viral   10 #62 Posted July 6, 2013 You have to phone 101 straight away, police want us to do this more often, they are not bothered if its a false alarm, they will apprehend and check to see if they are licenced. This is from the horses mouth so please do it.
 Share this content via...
mancmart   10 #63 Posted July 7, 2013 There was a pick up on Wybourn yesterday with someone shouting 'any old iron' through a megaphone. I ran to the window thinking my favourite singers (Chas and Dave) had made a comeback, only to be disappointed to see a scruffy pick up cruising looking for scrap. 'Fair enough' I thought, just earning a living. When I noticed my wing mirror had been the victim of a hit and run, and was told by a witness they had seen ' a white pick up hit it'.. Was this just a co-incidence? I wouldn't like to say, in case I end up in court myself for making libelous assumptions!
 Share this content via...
Windra   10 #64 Posted July 12, 2013 I used to see nothing wrong with the scrap men coming round on a Sunday with their megaphones doing a service, but we have been having alot of problems with metal theft and it's hard to tell which are the ones actually doing it.   my neighbours had people poking around in her skip which was not on the roadside but in her garden and a few days later we had a whole greenhouse frame stolen from the back of our house that is not visible form the road and only accessible from a path down the side of our house. They left the glass behind so it was obviously stolen for the metal.  I reported it on 101 incase they were any break-ins and was actually surprised that a police officer popped round the area the next day.  Its a shame really as I wouldn't leave anything out for the honest scrap man again for fear of encouraging the bad ones! Parvo   13 #65 Posted July 12, 2013 I used to leave food out for birds but it attracted the rats-----same principle.  and yes report any thefts to the police......these metal thieves are a real menace and they are getting away with it all the time...it might just fall lucky and get the scum picked up and their vehicle taken off them ...well we can hope...  and you were lucky to see a policeman.....most of us don't when we're hit.....just get a crime number
 Share this content via...
stropalottle   10 #66 Posted July 12, 2013 I've seen a scrap van before 7am cruising slowly through Deepcar twice this week. Open backed truck with lots of broken lawnmowers, garden furniture, bikes and similar. Seems a bit early to be honestly collecting. wibbles   10 #68 Posted July 13, 2013 I had a chav knock on my door last year asking if i wanted windows with a flyer for double glazing that he obviously found on the floor. I knew immediatly that he was dodgy and I said sure let me call you main office to discuss and he said that no one would be in the office. He was obviously scouting to see who was in and who was out.  I looked him in the eye & told him that if i catch him in my house, he'll be leaving in an ambulance or worse and he scuppered off.  Course you did. Priorylady   10 #69 Posted July 13, 2013 I've seen a scrap van before 7am cruising slowly through Deepcar twice this week. Open backed truck with lots of broken lawnmowers, garden furniture, bikes and similar. Seems a bit early to be honestly collecting.  My next door neighbour disturbed a man trying to take my gates at 4.30 am on Monday morning. he didn't have a van, just an estate car. Luckily for me, my neighbour does get up early or he would have had them.  I thought he had damaged the gates but on further inspection it is the fixings not the gates or posts that are damaged so I may be able to have them reinstated (with more secure fixings)
 Share this content via...
