zippyzag1 Â Â 10 #1 Posted June 16, 2013 Hi.. I am searching for a chocolate labrador puppy which is from a good breeder. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I would be buying for a family member who has owned labs previously.. Thanks
 Share this content via...
ParkyJ Â Â 10 #2 Posted June 16, 2013 Contact the kennel club for a list of breeders in your area. Be careful of free adds and gumtree as labradors can be puppy farm dogs always see the puppy with its mum.
 Share this content via...
Elizabeth13 Â Â 10 #3 Posted June 16, 2013 BADAW have two pedigree choc lab brothers in their care at the moment, up for adoption. They are only 8 months old, but BADAW would ideally prefer the brothers to stick together. It would just be nicer for them both if they could be rehomed as a pair.. But obviously this doesn't always work out.
 Share this content via...

ccit   10 #5 Posted June 17, 2013 (edited) They may already know this, but please ensure that the puppy's parents are both hip scored and eye tested for progressive retinal atrophy (PRA). Some breeders have the elbows assessed too. Ask to see the documentation. Be aware that Kennel Club registration is not a guarantee of good hip score because they do register pups with less than satisfactory ones. Use the Kennel Club assured breeders list (as mentioned) but they still need to do their homework - not everyone on there is the perfect breeder. They might also want to contact one of the breed clubs as their members have to abide by a code of conduct, especially regarding breeding. The Midland Counties one is here. They should expect to pay about £650 for a good quality Labrador puppy. This might or might not be helpful. Usual caveats apply regarding the avoidance of puppy farmed dogs. Posiepaws   10 #7 Posted June 17, 2013 I have a friend who is a very responsible breeder, 1 litter a year, all health checks etc but he will not be having a litter until October and usually has a waiting list. Website http://www.tooromeenlabradors.com  You will find that the best breeders rarely have pups left over. Even if you don't use the above breeder I would recommend reading all his pages about Labradors and health and look for something very similar!  Happy hunting x
 Share this content via...
