Solomon1 Â Â 10 #25 Posted March 4, 2006 Hiya guys. just as an update, in trying to get rid of that f**king extra homepage, i finally killed my computer! used a program called tweak registry and then deleted 'suspicious files' at its request after it did a full scan. subsequently, i could do nothing at all, not open any programs, not connect to the internet, not even a system restore . Â this story has a happy ending though! i got in touch with a very nice computer man who reset everything on my computer to its original shop settings and this seems to have have got rid of the freezing bug, the crashing bug and most importantly....my browser is no longer hijacked...yipee!! Â was a bit of a drastic remedy, coz i lost all my music collection that was downloaded onto the hard-drive. but at least i can download them again and use my computer hassle-free for the first time in about 2 months! Â so the lesson i have learnt from all of this is.....make sure you have ONE good anti-virus package (eg avg), ONE OR MORE anti-spyware (eg adaware, spybot) and ONE firewall (eg windows). Also, the anti-virus packages are only as good as the frequency with which you update (i have now been told) and once weekly is what i am aiming at from now on.... Â thanks for all those who offered help and advice in my hour of need
 Share this content via...
jd_sheff   10 #26 Posted March 4, 2006 Another Anti-Spyware program I'd recommend to use as well as Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy is SpywareBlaster. It doesn't run scans but it blocks dodgy websites and ActiveX software. You can get a better description and download it from here
 Share this content via...
NickAskew   10 #27 Posted March 4, 2006 Alternatively, download the Firefox browser and use that from now on.. the majority of rubbish that script kiddies write to trash your PC only works within Internet Explorer  You can download it here --> http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
 Share this content via...
