Brewdog bar coming to Sheffield ?

Recommended Posts

Do you hipsters think there is any mileage in starting a 1970s-themed pub in the centre of Sheffield? I am planning it will stock only fizzy keg beer (not Smoothflow rubbish, proper old style bubbly stuff). The bitter will be Stones OR Wards OR John Smiths OR Trophy (just one mind, certainly not all four). There might be a weak lager (possibly Harp). Halves will be served with the question 'is it for a lady?'. There will be no hot food AT ALL. If you want a restaurant, then go to one. To sustain a lengthy session there will be a few cheese rolls under a large glass dome on the bar. There will be a choice of red or white wine. There will be a medium sized Ferguson TV on a very high shelf showing an endless reel of the 3.30 at Lingfield. Clouds of dry ice will be used to simulate the smoke fumes. Beer will be £6 per pint.

A great idea. On condition that we have a "tap room" and a "best side", and we can drink ourselves under the table while sitting the kids in the car park with a fizzy orange & crisps. Memories.....

But could we have Tankard: I preferred this (it tasted of nothing) to Trophy (which always tasted of melted snow and all the attendant residue...)

I have been in 3 Saturdays in a row and tomorrow will be the 4th. Personally I love the place, great selection, better prices than the tap and a good atmosphere. Each time I have been in there has been a wide range of people not just "hipsters".

Could not agree more. These bars have a bit more in common with the Dutch and Belgian specialist bars I have been in and the Sheffield one is welcome. The cheese and meat platter was great but find out in advance if the peppered salami is on it: it is not for the sensitive palate. They need to slightly increase the sizes of their tasters though. You need a decent gulp to appreciate a beer I think, a sip will not always do it. Perhaps make the flights of beer option a bit more visible, or recommend it to those not sure.

This is not your local pub, it is 'beer club'. Enjoy it for that!

It is expensive, it has no cask beer, the decor is rough and ready with an unfinished feel and there is so much marketing rubbish associated with the brand....

However - get over the above and actually its a chilled out bar with an interesting beer range and helpful staff.

Interestingly it was pointed out the other day that one particular imported porter was on at both Brewdog and Shakespeare's at two very different prices....

And no coffee. Especially with a pattern in the froth.

Yeah, there will be coffee....Camp Coffee with Chicory essence, served with condensed milk in a Pyrex cup and saucer, most of the brew being in the saucer...

I quite like the place. As I get older I find I don't want to drink as much, so a couple of halfs of something fancy is okay by me. That's probably all I'd have, though, and then move on. It's just two expensive to be a place you settle down with your mates for the evening.

my thoughts exactly (well apart from not wanting to drink as much ;) ) - they have beers I want to try, but there's no way I'd pick it as a place to go for a session!

drink less, drink better...

Went in on Saturday. I'm a fan of Brewdog and their Leeds bar is a regular haunt of mine.

But I can not believe they called last orders on a packed bar at 11.15pm on a Saturday night! Ridiculous

That catches me out every time I go drinking in London. Wouldn't have expected it in Sheffield though, bad show!

I finally popped in last week, during the day and enjoyed it. Wasn`t there long enough to go bankrupt and I opted for a half of Buxton Wild Boar which was worth whatever I paid for it.
