Travel insurance for people with cancer

Recommended Posts

Hi, does anyone know of any insurance companies that cover people with cancer. My husband had bladder cancer and had it removed 4 years ago. He recently went to the hospital for his yearly check up only to be found that he has cancer in 2 lymph glands. We are going away to Cyprus on 30th june, he will start his chemo when we get back but we need to try to get insurance if we can. Has anyone any ideas. Greatly appreciated.

As a family with pre-existing medical conditions, we have used Columbus Direct several times. Always seemed reasonable but the price depends, of course, on the underwriters' view of their exposure.

Aviva used to have an option where you could be covered for all of the standard things which aren't related to your pre-existing conditions for the same price as everybody else, or pay extra to be covered for the extra conditions too.

That made the difference between being able to afford cover and not being able to afford to go at all in my case. I would never have decided to travel at all if I thought that my tumour or spinal problems weren't stable (so I wouldn't actually need cover for them) but I'd be as likely as the next person to be involved in a coach crash or fall over and break my ankle as the next (healthy) person and that is what bothered me on insured costs.

If you would like your husband to be covered for problems arising from his tumour too then please expect a much larger bill.

I hope that everything goes swimmingly and he's well and healthy soon :)

Give this a try.

http://www.moneysupermarket.com/travel-insurance/pre-existing-medical-conditions/ and http://www.confused.com/travel-insurance/pre-existing-medical

Saves shopping around and it will list the companies that will actually insure you

I've used it but still didn't get me cheaper quotes:hihi: I think I blow their servers when I put all my conditions in :hihi::hihi: I hate it when you see the ads on TV and they say we cover any pre existing condition, well I've been turned down loads of times or the cost as made the holiday just not worth it.

I was recently quoted 400 quid for 3 days in Barcelona, 1,500 quid for 4 days in New York & 2k for a fortnight in Turkey , the New York was was more of a whim as I've always fancied going, but noway could afford it.

Have you looked at Free Spirit Travel Insurance they are a specialist travel insurance provider for people with pre-exiting medical conditions and disabilities.

They were the first provider of this kind of insurance 16 years ago and will cover the majority of conditions including cancer and where possible terminal conditions.

Their medical screening team are UK based and are on hand to help or you can issue a policy online.

I hope they can help and are able to provide the peace of mind protection to enable you to have a relaxing and anjoyable holiday.

Regards

Rachel :)
